Oh and at one point, one cop pepper-sprayed another cop. (Around the 12-second mark.)

The NYPD also violently arrested several protesters, pushing them to the ground.

Story to come.

Federal immigration enforcement officials called off a planned raid on Canal Street today shortly before it was slated to begin.

New Yorkers who heard about the raid showed up at the garage where the feds had gathered, and as federal agents tried to leave, the NYPD cleared the way for them.

This may seem like a harmless bit of fluff but I honestly feel embarrassed for some of these people.
Every living room–and photograph—tells a story. Gillian Laub photographs notable New Yorkers—including Emily Ratajkowski and Spike Lee—in their living rooms. See the photos. http://nyer.cm/Eu1Mg2c
Inside the Living Rooms of Notable New Yorkers
A congresswoman, an “S.N.L.” star, and a convicted con artist are among the residents who invited the photographer Gillian Laub into their most public private space.

So grateful to everyone in NYC who mobilized to stop the ICE raid of Canal St. The violence being committed against immigrants is heart-wrenching, but the shows of solidarity we have seen around the country give me so much hope.

The agreement that was reached between Northwestern and (some of the) anti-genocide protesters camping on its field, back in spring 2024, has certainly been put in a fresh perspective. 🙃

The @medillschool.bsky.social was silent as 200+ journalists were murdered in Gaza, was silent as their own students were threatened w beating by police, then suspended me and denied me tenure for standing w the students. It is not a journalism school, it is a school for teaching cowardice & fascism

Feels really significant that the Trump admin is making a concerted effort to force colleges to undo policies that made campus safe and accessible for trans people, because for so many trans people college is the first place they ever get to be themselves.

And one more other thing I’m seeing now, that Northwestern unsurprisingly didn’t mention in its statement, effectively banning gender affirming care at NU school of medicine

One other notable thing here: Northwestern said a few months ago it would fund own research through the end of the year, but remained unclear about what would happen at the start of 2026

Today is Nov. 28 and funding will be restored within 30 days…have to imagine the timing was intentional

It's because the employees on the ground are the only ones doing actual useful work that can't be replaced by an obsequious lying email machine
A study by Dayforce shows 87% of executives use AI for work, compared to 57% of managers and just 27% of employees.

I think this explains the massive disconnect we see in how CEOs talk about AI versus everyone else. It also raises the question of how useful it truly is for frontline work?
Execs are embracing AI more than their employees are, new research suggests
Research from HR software company Dayforce suggests that executives are leaning into AI far more than their employees.

The problem with fetishizing the rule of law is that people have to break the law to resist fascism, state violence, and oppression. This has always been true, and is very much the case RIGHT NOW.
