FINDS THEM AND KILLS THEM

"Finds Them and Kills Them (Osh-Tisch) looked like a man, but wore women's clothing and had the heart of a woman.... she was brave and good."
― Pretty Shield

Her strength as a warrior is what earned her the name Osh-Tisch, which translates to “finds them and kills them."
Who is Osh-Tisch?
Osh-Tisch was a Apsáalooke Badé, a role within the Crow Nation that defied traditional gender norms, embodying both masculine and feminine qualities. Before colonization, Badé were deeply respected for their unique spiritual gifts, artistry, and contributions to community life.
As a Badé, Osh-Tisch carried responsibilities tied to culture, ceremony, and social balance. Their life shows how many of our nations embraced gender diversity long before Western colonial powers imposed rigid binaries.

The Regime's goal is to grind everyone down. Plain & simple. Our goal is to refuse this by taking turns to fight where and how we can. When one group needs to bow out, then another group needs to step in and so on. We don't all have to do everything. We can all do something though. Stay in the fight

Albany Park. It's not "undetermined," it's just info that's been stripped out by all the people sharing it without credit.

And while you walk through this restored landscape, you may come across a reminder of how profoundly engineered it actually is! This is a huge drop shaft into the deep tunnel system that underlies much of the region. Tunnels as large as 33ft in diameter hundreds of feet below the ground!

Long before Horner Park became home to a rare oak savannah and a modern effigy mound, it was a municipal dump. And before it was a dump, it was a clay pit and brickyard. This cycle of extraction to disposal to restoration inspires me to imagine an urbanism that is ecologically and historically just.
Two children running toward a spiraling effigy mound covered in native grasses Children running down a mulched path that runs along a gently sloping riverbank covered in native grasses and a few burr oaks. a restored oak savannah with native grasses in the front and a mix of deciduous trees in the back Two children running up a gently sloping hill with short crabgrass. A row of trees sporting autumn colors rises beyond the crest of the hill.

One has to wonder why a respectable journalist org like @spj-posts.bsky.social would associate themselves with a hate org like the ADF... and push young journalists to that org.

This year's MediaFest - a conference for student journalists has a Faith breakout section that includes speakers from the Alliance Defending Freedom - a SPLC designated Hate Group (oddly CJR's article doesn't mention that).

I hope attendees and sponsors pull out.

But in recent weeks, MediaFest’s schedule has been amended to include people from other religious backgrounds. There will be more than twenty faith track speakers, on panels tackling such questions as “Can the Bible inform reporters on how to cover the news?” and discussing censorship on the basis of faith. “We even have a Muslim coming,” said Naomi Balk—who Thursday, October 16th
Freedom to report with faith

Description
As culture shifts away from religion, reporters are caught in a paradox: non-religious reporters report on topics of faith, and reporters of faith report on non-religious topics. What does it look like to report with objectivity in an age where not all perspectives are viewed as valid? Hear from Tyson Langhofer, director of the ADF Center for Academic Freedom, as he shares lessons from history about freedom of the press.

The trailblazing transgender rights activist Miss Major has passed away at the age of 78.

Miss Major was a lifelong organizer and participant in the ballroom scene. She took part in the 1969 Stonewall Riots and was injured by the police — but she kept fighting.

Legitimately disgusting that were getting legal rigging of elections and nobody cares in the media or the electorate. This is not that functionally different than tossing out thousands of votes to help your side win.

North Carolina Republicans announced today they’re going to pass a new congressional map to draw a Dem out of Congress; they already did last cycle, going from 7-7 to 10-4. Thus would be 11-3. t.co/XLJIhe8vZn

soooo my Chicagoans, has anyone else's neighborhood facebook group gone from desperately apolitical (regarding federal politics) to at least 40% about ICE/DHS activity and organizing against it? like it's hard to overstate this shift

uncomfortable seeing pro-AI people developing persecution complexes; the entire material economy and tech sector is lined up to benefit you at the exclusion of people who feel moral qualms about these things, and you want, what, everyone to just bow at your feet?

A few messages seen today in Chicago’s Uptown neighborhood
A poster on a pole next to a street says:
“ICE YOU ARE NOT INVISIBLE
!RECORD!
!RECORD!
!RECORD!
NAZI RATS LEAVE OUR CITY”
A stack of posters featuring a hammer-wielding figure with the stars of the Chicago wrapped around his torso. It says:
“I PREFER MY ICE CRUSHED. END IMMIGRATION ARRESTS, DEFEND OUR SANCTUARY” A sign in a store window says: “WE DON’T [SERVE is crossed out] FEED ICE OR PIGS! even if you steal this sign” The words “ICE OUT” are written in chalk on a sidewalk.

We honor the legacy of Miss Major Griffin-Gracy, a fierce protector of our collective freedom. Our hearts are with her loved ones and all who carry her vision forward.

"We will honor Miss Major forever." - @imarajones.bsky.social
An illustration of Miss Major surrounded by candles with blue background and a famous quote of hers written in gold. The quote reads“I don’t need their permission to exist; I exist in spite of them. I want you to train and teach and love on and create families within my community and gender non-conforming people, so that we can understand that we have a culture, we have a history, we have a reason to be here. We have a purpose. We’re entitled to be loved, and seek happiness, and share that with the people that we care about.” -Miss Major Griffin-Gracy
