British Columbia, it’s not too late to come over to the right side of history. The Blue Jays play 2,500 miles away. They are not your home team!

Okay that last sentence, maybe not DAO/the Blight. But you weren’t gonna win the war without helping those in Thedas and gaining their support. (And yes you could do it evilly.)
megrosejoy.bsky.social
It’s not a bad game, and it’s enjoyable to play. But the other 3 DA games (more 2 and Veilguard, to a different extent Origins) pack a much more emotional punch for me. The threats feel more existential, because they’re born of how those in power treat those without power.
megrosejoy.bsky.social
DAI just… ignored them. It says “but both sides bad” and then dangles the Corypheys-shaped keys.

In DAO, it’s a smaller scale. You have to solve all the little issues in each faction before they’ll agree to help you fight the BBEG. In DA2 and DAV, the BBEGs are taking direct advantage of societal ills (inequality, oppression, violence, poverty) to prop up their causes and gain power.

I thought about Dragon Age while swimming laps tonight and pinpointed one of the reasons that Inquisition is at the bottom of my DA tier list. It’s the only game that ignores societal blight (no pun intended) to focus on the BBEG, whereas the other games have the two issues relate.

Short story collections should be way more popular and marketed better for the short-attention present.

yearly reminder to people insisting that we view Christopher Columbus as "a man of his time" that *the people responsible for the Spanish Inquisition* thought Columbus was out of pocket

Christopher Columbus was dragged back to Spain in chains by a crusading knight, convicted of tyranny and immeasurable cruelty, pardoned by Isabella but banned from returning to Hispaniola.

Fuck Columbus.

Police officers who publicly declare that they’ll quit if a mayoral candidate they dislike wins the election are (1) usually bluffing—sure buddy, toss away that paycheck and pension—and (2) exactly the sort of cops cities would be better off without, ones who don’t see themselves as public servants.

Congress better hurry up and settle the shutdown before everyone figures out they’re nonessential personnel.

CAPE VERDE, POPULATION 560,000, QUALIFY FOR A FIRST-EVER WORLD CUP 🇨🇻

The second-smallest nation ever to achieve that feat. Every US state has a bigger population, yet the Blue Sharks are on their way to football's big dance. Astonishing and inspiring 🦈

A surprising sight in St. Clair County, Michigan: A man waving Fixodent denture cream before the county commissioners at an August meeting.

“I am an unfluoridated child,” he declared, “with a set of uppers and lowers.”
