@fletchjack.bsky.social from the BMA explains they've been trying to get round the table with Wes Streeting for several months but Streeting didn't even bother replying to their letter

Now we're in Dec with a Flu epidemic & Streeting is accusing resident doctors of endangering patients

Wes Streeting doesn't want to 'catastrophise' but says people could die because of the doctor's strike.

If they're that important, Wes, how about paying them properly?

Again, quite a good example of how the slow erosion of the right's firewall against explicit far right bigotry has wider cultural impacts.

This soft soap profile of a noted football hooligan who died whilst participating in an intimidation campaign is part of accepting "well, they have concerns."

It's incredible this debate has even happened without seemingly a single mainstream British commentator noting that Scotland just made Scots and Gaelic official languages and *well over half* of Glaswegians speak Scots as their first language
This is a really appalling editorial error on BBC Question Time

"Apparently one in three children don't speak English as a first language, why does this matter?"

Chair says "have English as a second language"

This BBC article presents a big table of the symptoms of flu versus COVID before admitting that they are almost identical - then completely fails to suggest the (rather obvious) solution of taking a rapid test. You know, like we all did repeatedly, just a few years ago

Cold, 'super flu' and Covid symptoms: Expert advice and how to avoid the worst
BBC Morning Live's Dr Oscar Duke shares his advice on how to identify whether you have cold, flu or Covid and how to look after yourself.

There was a really interesting comment from one of the lawyers who worked on the Sandie Peggie case (& others) which was that a significant factor in the decision was the demeanour of the ‘victim’. Even when a judge isn’t necessarily that sympathetic to trans people they can spot a bully a mile off.
Graham Linehan has such little self-awareness he *really* doesn’t understand how totally unhinged he seems in his ‘woe is me’ batshit crazy ranting! 😬

He’s the ‘cautionary tale’ of what obsessive ‘gender critical’ transphobia leads to: no friends, no life, and spaghetti carbonara for one!

WOW; a DEEPLY corrupt move by the immigration courts; clear collaboration with Trump admin officials to produce a specific result with zero notice to the party and ALSO in a situation where the judge facially lacks jurisdiction; the judge had denied a motion to reopen and the case is on appeal.
Judge Xinis ordered Kilmar Abrego Garcia’s release in part bc ICE could not produce a final “order of removal” to deport him. So last night, they went out and got an immigration judge to issue one.

Now, Abrego is urging Xinis to block his redetention. storage.courtlistener.com/recap/gov.us...

They have lost the plot entirely. Nevermind about the catastrophic collapse of the American tourist industry, this keeps expats and their families away from ever visiting the hellhole they're hellbent on creating.
It's not just social media. Looks like visitors to the US from Europe and other countries that are part of the visa waiver program will have to submit an enormous amount of data about themselves and their families, including DNA, if proposed new rules are accepted

It's wild. We have so many real problems as a country, and instead a large chunk of our political class would rather hallucinate that one of the safest big global cities in the world is actually dangerous.
The "London = most dangerous place on the planet" discourse is still going strong on Twitter

I've actually been surprised by how little I've felt threatened as a woman in London (having lived in Tooting and Peckham)

I loved growing up in Nottingham, but I had much, much worse experiences there tbh

Want to travel to the US? You might have to give the Trump administration the last five years of your social media history.

Innocent people end up in our criminal courts.

Completely, terrifyingly innocent.

And all that stands between them and losing everything is a fair trial.

Politicians would do well to remember this when they tell us that justice is all about processing “criminals” swiftly.

When this #BBC article was first published, it accurately described Dr Beth Upton - the woman found to be harassed by Peggie - as a trans woman

The piece was then scrubbed - replacing an accurate description with a transphobic slur instead of the language trans women use to describe themselves

This is a piece designed to legitimise the Illegitimate. Labour didn't take an "evidence driven" approach to anti-asylum policies, they actively lied in some of their supporting documents to defend them. They took a "what plays well with Reform" approach", and this piece tries to excuse that. 3/

Apologies, it's been a long day, but this is an absolute crock of shit. Barriers to integration have been shown to be primarily political rhetoric. The UK is not a prime destination for people. Wishes and hopes don't equal actual thinking. My ideal destination would be a desert island right now. 1/

Lol well one thing ill say is that if the ruling was the other way around there wouldn’t be questions would there. It would have been a declaration trans people are finally segregated but anything remotely trans inclusive Must be questioned
Now changed, though I still don't think the framing is great
