I would not have had the broad spectrum of gaming experiences I had without the video store.

My favorite local had a 5/5/5 deal on games and it was the bulk of what I played in those days, and the games we did own, half of them were bought used from that shop or others, including my Genesis.

Ludicrous take to say nobody misses the video store. Going to my local video store as a teenager was so fucking good. They had a five movies for five days for five dollars deal that was pretty much the greatest thing ever and a super stoned clerk who had seen every movie known to man

A thing I think about sometimes is that the death of used game shops and video stores has probably more effectively gentrified video games than any amount of dumb culture war bullshit ever could.

I barely buy major label games anymore, it's just too fucking expensive.

Performative revulsion at "amateurish, outsider" fetish art is tiresome. Someone sees a piece of media, it creates an itch in their brain, they try to scratch it with the limited tools they have at their disposal. A more intuitive, fruitful interaction with art than spending money on it

Fundamentally every ending to ME3 asks you to concede that the Reapers are a bad solution to a real problem & propose an alternate solution to that problem. But the entire story up to that point was one long argument that the problem wasn't real except insofar as the Reapers caused it on purpose
