Last night we went to a get-together for my parents’ 50th wedding anniversary. My two siblings and I planned it (my brother was the real heavy lifter, but my sister and I did each put up 1/3 of the $).

I got to see relatives and family friends I’ve known my whole life, but hadn’t seen in years.

More movies need to have Tieflings in them.

All movies, ideally. Yes even biopics and historical dramas.

A friend of mine who’s a barista, and also trans, had to deal with a customer who was enraged, and apparently incredulous, that Trump winning didn’t mean she had every right to misgender her.

“Trump won! We don’t have to put up with people like that anymore!”

The police were called.
Like 30% of the country is absolutely enraged because they thought they were going to be able to be utter shitbirds without anyone being allowed to call them shitbirds, but here we are, calling them shitbirds.

I’ve been seeing weird ads featuring Mr. Beast that appear to be Saudi Arabia tourism ads, and it’s like, I must have hallucinated that. That can’t actually be a real thing I saw.
Mr. Beast is one of those celebrities or shows in the background of a dystopian story to give you an idea of how completely the broken society has become. You can't convince me he's real.

Sometimes, when someone forces women to watch them masturbate, no one gives a fuck about the "finest art they've ever made."
When a cancelled performer reënters the culture, we expect them to offer us a great work, channelling their newfound clarity into the finest art they’ve ever made. With his new comedy show and début novel, has Louis C.K. met the bar?

In a new standup special, and a début novel, the comedian navigates murky, post-#MeToo terrain: not quite exiled, not quite welcomed back.

We do? Who expects that?

This is the first I’m hearing of it. I’ve never heard anyone say “oo, good, that guy we kicked out for being a gross sex pest is back, I bet we’re about to get a great work of art.” That’s deranged.

R: Do you think Death could possibly be a boat?
G: No, no, no… death is not. Death isn’t. Take my meaning? Death is the ultimate negative. Not-being. You can’t not be on a boat.
R: I’ve frequently not been on boats.
G: No, no… what you’ve been is not on boats.

I don’t know if there is one, but maybe Zelda II and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles for the NES, as a kid, because I beat both those games and it took me a really long time.

across all the variations: the Baum novel, the original film, the Wiz, Wicked (the book), Wicked (the musical), the Great and Terrible, Wicked (the film), Tin Man, the common theme that unites them all is “Americans are especially susceptible to propaganda from conmen and shysters”
One of the things about the Wizard of Oz, and the Oz series in general, is that it's arguably the first big fantasy series heavily steeped in Americana.
one of the core myths of American stories and art. i really enjoyed the documentary “Lynch/Oz” which came out a few years ago, about the ways WoO shows ups in Lynch’s works

A reminder, too, that he ran on this. It wasn’t a secret. They had “mass deportation now” signs everywhere.

That voice telling you not to lift a finger to stop them? That wasn’t your conscience.
A reminder for those who are not aware: "remigration" is the process of deporting all non-white people from a country. It includes citizens and is, by definition, ethnic cleansing.

And to be clear: this is not fake. I just screenshot it myself.

I sorta think the fact that they pivoted from NFTs to AI without even pausing is part of why more people aren’t buying “AI is the future.”

“Okay, the thing we just spent 2 years telling you was the future turned out to be nothing at best and a scam at worst, but this time we have a real one!”

I’m gonna be seeing a whole bunch of family this evening (yesterday was Friendsgiving, today is family).

So one thing I’m thankful for is that somehow, none of them are trumpers. Even the ones who were hardcore Bush republicans are basically resistance libs now.
