“I'm terrified at the moral apathy, the death of the heart, which is happening in my country. These people have deluded themselves for so long that they really don't think I'm human. And I base this on their conduct, not on what they say..."

And the people who saw that and didn't nope out of there are the worse for it. It's a fantastic example of how social media sites can be used to mainline extremist propaganda if their owners so desire. And Musk basically is high on his own supply.
britculpsapp.bsky.social
honestly though — like once he took control, the “for you” feed became basically all nazi shit with matt walsh, various groypers & then musk retweeting accounts with full on dogwhistles as handles calling for remigration. it’s pushed & amplified, speedrunning normalization of slurs & eugenics.
invisiblelad7.bsky.social
What really truly bothers me about Twitter is that Musk platformed, then monetized the darkest, most anti-social movements he could find...legitimized them to the point that mainstream reporters and most people can't even detect normal racism anymore.

He sees himself as an early adopter of what ICE and Trump's demented henchmen are doing. And he's right.

if u dig down to the original tweet it's a couple weeks old but also quite funny in context
screenshot from x the everything app: a pathetic bluecheck begs the head of product to "fix" his meager creator payouts, head of product responds to say they're just gonna stop paying everyone

You mean to tell me, paying a bunch of white nationalists to be edgelords isn't lucrative?

They're not. There are too many people who think voting for Trump last time was a "both sides are bad" or "business decision" and not a possible end of the country decision.

By the time this year is over there'll be an excessive amount of data proving that Republican governance is nothing but graft and failure rooted in archaic policies and absent principles. It'll also be very late for such awareness.
dseitz.bsky.social
One of the core issues of pretending fixing the US is "just" an ideological project is that there is no way forward without an admission that the GOP's ideas and policies are total failures and need to be scrapped.

it’s amazing how easy it is to chase off evangelical extremists with the mere sight of a naked butt

U.S. House Speaker Mike Johnson calls Sunday's naked bike ride in protest of the Portland ICE facility and and Trump troop deployment "the most threatening thing I’ve seen yet"

I remember being rightly horrified of this dude's "I get to treat you however I want cause I wear the badge" attitude and the idea that he thinks the SCOTUS vindicates him is very, very bad for a functioning society.

for @slate.com I wrote about Joe Arpaio's view on the SCOTUS shadow docket decision in Noem v. Vasquez Perdomo, the case in which Kavanaugh said it was okay to racially profile people.
“I was vindicated by the Supreme Court of all this shit.”

Thanks, SCOTUS.

I wonder if MAGA realizes how many “normies” are turning ACAB after seeing shit like this day after day?

WGN, this woman’s employer, is now reporting she was not charged with any crimes and was released.

DHS said earlier she was arrested for assault for throwing objects at agents.

I remember the bumper sticker when David Duke ran for governor of Louisiana against the famously felonious Edwin Edwards:
"Vote for the crook. It's important."
invisiblelad7.bsky.social
Especially because even the biggest psychopaths in Bush or any other administration wouldn't just kill a bunch of people on the open seas and then brag about it without supported claims and a paper trail. It's BEYOND illegal.

Yes, but you're not going to be around to enjoy it.
invisiblelad7.bsky.social
Yes, the dragging of both Fox News and Twitter so far right that their rhetoric is virtually indistinguishable from Stormfront on a good day has had obvious negative social impacts and that'll be more and more clear over time.

Yes, why is everyone shitting on a high profile reporter, at a prestigious news org, for having an affair with a subject? It’s not slut shaming, it’s professional ethics standards.

Nor is McCain. Most of the "sensible moderate" Republicans ducked and didn't seek re-election when things started to look dark for a reason. Of course the rest of them are on the bus straight to sundown town.

I don't think the racism of the Republican Party has changed in my lifetime, what I think is different is that Bob Dole is no longer around to bludgeon other party members with his dead arm if they say they like Hitler.

So today when I meet people who vote for Republicans and they can sense I'm wary...and they try to make justifications about how they're not like OTHER Republicans...how on earth am I supposed to tell? They support them in every other way...
