Hey look, Israel broke the cease-fire, twice, in two different ways, within 24 hours - again.
mondoweiss.net
NEW: Israel informed the UN it will permit only 300 aid trucks into Gaza daily, not the 600 mandated by the ceasefire it just signed.

1) Everyone who's able to should do both.
2) Covid shots are increasingly restricted. They're available to few people in my province right now.

Absolutely no one needed the picture books about how it's right to mock the kid at school with dirty clothes, or why it's perfectly understandable for a husband to slap his nagging wife, or why not conforming to the group means it's your fault if you get killed. They went straight to the trash.

And each one who's cut public education gets a class of 27 kindergartners, some hungry, some recent refugees with limited English, some with undiagnosed learning disabilities, with no EA, no SLP, and no OT (bc cuts), and their pay can depend on how well the kids learn reading and math.

One way of thinking about the AI bubble is that it's the final gasp of a grift based on specialized GPU's instead of tulips, a logical continuation from crypto and NFT's and the metaverse.

Like, there's nowhere else for it to go, no other magical use for this shit other than as electronic waste.

The only explanation for why assaulting people with a car has such insanely minor consequences is that the people who make our laws want to be able to assault people with their own cars.

Sorry friends, the funicular is still down and there is fresh vandalism.
The elevator is operational.
I’m still thankful for the funicular and thankful I can still climb the stairs. What are you thankful for?
Enjoy your long weekend!

A striking thing about articles I’ve read claiming to “study the effects” of generative AI on student writing skills and consumption of information is that (1) they nearly always find the effects are negative and (2) most “conclusions” are still written assuming that we must use AI, for some reason.

Our team talked with dozens of restaurant workers who painted an ugly picture of kitchen standards with one saying, "We’re told it’s a financial issue to improve health and safety"

Carney’s reckless approach to AI policy should raise serious questions about his infrastructure & US policies as well. In all three, he seems to be relying on his own (non-expert) judgment, ignoring complexity & others’ expertise in favour of speed. But decisiveness isn’t the same as good judgment.
Carney’s haste may make bad AI policy - The Logic
The Liberals’ AI task force has just 30 days to do their job. Some members say it isn’t enough time.
