Finally finished a mending project I’ve been stuck on all month. This free tote bag I got in 2020 immediately became a favourite for grocery runs. After 4ish years of use, I needed to 1) darn some holes, 2) add a panel to the bottom, and 3) make shorter handles.

Before / after
Just saw an impatient driver speed around a bus in a residential area, and then when the bus caught up mere seconds later we (passengers) saw that same car spinning like a ballerina through the intersection because the driver had taken a turn too fast. Great work, you have saved 0 seconds.

I can’t believe we live in a world where I can’t have both 40 mm tires AND fenders 😔

Last week I made an appointment for tmrw morning. That’s looking like a pretty bad decision right now. Save me, ETS. Public transit save meeeee

In this article a family member says they’d like to see the crossing’s pedestrian lights upgraded to traffic lights (because drivers do not respect soft limits), and then there is a quote from the police telling pedestrians to take responsibility for themselves and avoid stepping in front of cars. 😵‍💫

(side note: every time I find my bike covered in frost I wonder if it’s inside the frame too and if I need to be doing anything about that)

One of my slowest bike rides ever because I was convinced that my apple crumble would fall off the back at any moment.

Oh, this is terrible news. I can’t imagine that trying to make a left turn in Sunday morning traffic was so urgent or distracting that one hits a pedestrian? 😵‍💫

Ugh, suddenly having flashbacks to the persistent gravel section in the middle of the 153 Ave SUP.
#yegbike It appears the 113 st MUP from 111 Ave to Kingsway is now "open". The two remaining open stretches have been gravelled (slightly concave) and barriers removed. You no longer have to divert onto the street. But north end still dumps you straight into Kingsway, so be careful!

My dream of finding the missing cams for my Singer buttonholer (the original, I don’t have the Professional… yet 👀) for a not-ridiculous price came true this week. 😭😍🥳

Sure, my sewing machine has a built-in round-end buttonholer but the process is fiddly and not even a little bit as fun as this.

I am once again asking the city to make SUP users’ lives easier and stop putting SUPs in places where they won’t get sun exposure. This is like the one way in which Edmonton’s weather conditions can actually help with snow/ice clearing but we refuse to take advantage of it in any way. :(
Can we get the city to consider sun/shade when planning new bike infrastructure? Like maybe we can stop having SUPs exclusively on the south side of avenues (i.e., in shade all day)?? 153 Ave, 137 Ave, etc. would be much better for winter cycling if the paths were on the sunny side of the street.

While most moderately busy roads are bare, most paths/sidewalks in the shade look like this. Studs probably a good idea to stay upright. #yegbike #yeg

Seen on the new SUP on the north side of 137 Ave between the north and south-bound legs of Manning Drive. I thought the city had stopped doing this kind of thing. Surely there were other options? #yegbike

I locked my bike at the downtown library this evening. When I came back to the rack there was another bike locked to the same loop, plus a dude walking around the bikes, touching and pushing each of them this way and that, I guess to see if they were locked properly? #yegbike

Today someone asked me if my bike has a name. I forgot that other people give their bikes human/boat/horse names, so I got a bit of a funny look when I said its “name” is 3M. 🫥

I’m directly across the street from a street light but was still able to see the aurora :)

Go look outside right now, we are having the most interesting sunset we’ve had in months

A tiny bit of swiss darning to fix a pair of fleecy sweatpants. 60% of the way through I realized that dark grey would have been a better choice than white. Oops.

This is part of my winter biking base layer collection, which I think will be back in action sooner rather than later…

The SUP that was installed on the west side of 97 St between 167 and 160 Ave as part of Lorelei-Beaumaris neighbourhood renewal is already cracking in some places. It's only been 4 years! :(

Watching live baseball on tv for the first time in my life today and thinking I should give it up and go back to watching highlights the next day
"Oh yeah? You like baseball? What if I make you smoke *an entire pack* of baseball?"

one simple fix here is to make a world that you'd actually want to bring a child into, and put everyone who says that doing so would be expensive and unrealistic into an individually-sized tupperware® container

The latest item to graduate from my alterations pile is a knitted turtleneck dickey/bib that I bought for winter bicycling. It’s drapey to the point of sagginess (because superwash wool), so it wasn’t great at keeping my neck warm. I inserted 5 rounds of elastic thread and now it’s perfect.

Nobody tell David Staples this is all because of the changes me and my UCP have made to how municipal elections are held in Alberta.

Let's see if he can use his "journalism" skills to figure it out on his own!🤭

Yet again I am trying and failing to find a bike rack (via streetview) that I can use on my trip later this week. A bike shop being located beside a bike lane but having no bike rack just doesn’t make sense. I think the message being sent is that cyclists aren’t actually supposed to use 82 St.
