Just a reminder that if you want to follow me in #Japan (and see the full breadth of the content), I'm posting it all to Instagram (with captions). You can find it all on my profile

I'm also using the tag #kaveyeatsjapan25 but that shows everything all out of order!

When someone offers you their seat on a packed tube, and you don’t want it, it’s generally considered polite to say “no thank you” rather than act like your masculinity has been grossly insulted, you miserable old git

Interestingly, this trick also works with the passive voice in phrases that people don't usually complain about, like "that said".

It works better if you revert it to "that being said (by zombies)", but "that said by zombies" also works

Because it feels relevant as we continue to evaluate the media and our representatives’ statements, my favorite way to identify the active vs. passive voice.
A post by Rebecca Johnson:
“I finally learned how to teach my guys to ID the passive voice. If you can insert "by zombies" after the verb, you have passive voice.”

A tumblr respond from mightymur:
“The final, brilliant word on passive voice.
"She was killed [by zombies.]"<--passive
"Zombies killed [by zombies] her." <-- active”

I was today years old when I learned that in Spanish "baking powder" is impulsador. Cubans call it "polvos Royal" (Royal powder) because that was the brand name sold in Cuba before the revolution.

I don't mean those who couldn't afford to buy at that time, obviously... I mean those who genuinely loved the idea of renting and hated the idea of being "grown up" enough to have a mortgage!🤣

We bought in 1994 and several of our contemporaries kept asking why we wanted to be tied down and what if we wanted to move into a different area. Prices went up so much just in the next few years that when they wanted to "settle down" it was already more than double.

Gert lush matcha latte after visiting the castle. Neither of us went in because sooner if the steps in the stairs are 3 times a regular step height, plus my hip is fucked, and Pete's too damn tall really. 😁

Yeah this is our second for dinner but we have had a few konbini breakfasts!

This afternoon we found a big Daiso and I bought a bunch of excellent stuff for very little, as is the Daiso way. The last one was a small one within a larger supermarket. This one also had their homeware brand, Standard Product, within it!👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽

And I got reception to book a local restaurant tomorrow (was genuinely closed last night) but to double check he was ok with us not speaking Japanese and to press that we have been in Japan multiple times, know how it works and don't need an English menu. Fingers crossed

I know it's a cop out after yesterday but it's pissing down out there so after a hearty ramen lunch we bought stuff at a konbini for dinner in our room and it was excellent!

The below plus crisps we already had and one of the 2 remaining (mighty fine) apples from Obuse.

Forgot these two places from lunch and after lunch coffee a couple of days ago, out from Obuse.

The rikishi are taking-in the town and doing what we all do when in London.
Seeing the sights, admiring the parks, shopping on High Street, taking tea at Fortnum's, using the olde phonebox, eating Chinese, and having a terrific time.
