Halloween isn't a big deal for most of Australia, but I'm going to put on a witch hat and leave the light on in case our neighbours bring around their little ones. I even picked up some glow in the dark chocolates (the package glows, not the food).

If we're talking modern day? The boy would probably want to dress up as something brave and popular with all the other kids. He's a pretty normal little boy, and all. I think he'd like to go as a knight or a superhero, maybe.

Two books for spooky season:
COFFIN MOON, Keith Rosson: Best modern vampire story ever (although it's set in the 70s).
THE TWISTED ONES, by T. Kingfisher: It lures you in with chatty good humor (especially about NPR Pledge Week) and a lovely dog...then slams the door and bites you in the dark.

The Priestess is almost entirely grey. Probably greyer than the villains, who are mostly doing their job for a fat payout.

She acts for "the greater good", which means she may very well put a knife through somebody's eye if she decides it's for the best.
