I’ve spent a lot of Thanksgivings doing mental caloric accounting as I shovel handfuls of chips into french onion dip into my gullet. I’d sneak into the gym I worked at in the morning to workout hard enough to “earn” my food later that day. All thanks to body dysmorphia and an eating disorder.

From the MN Society for Professional Journalists: St. Paul police shot three photojournalists (MPR, Reuters, Sahan Journal) with "less lethal" munitions during an ICE operation yesterday. One had to go to the hospital. They say they were specifically targeted by St. Paul police.
MNSPJ condemns St. Paul police attacks on journalists The Minnesota Society of Professional Journalists strongly condemns attacks on journalists by law enforcement on Tuesday, Nov. 25, 2025, during a federal operation in St. Paul. At least three local photojournalists were injured by less-lethal munitions deployed by St. Paul police officers while covering the story. One was transported to the hospital in an ambulance. All three journalists were clearly identified as press with badges and/or vests, in addition to having cameras in hand, clearly at work. All three photojournalists and multiple other local journalists on scene were also injured by chemical irritants. Kerem Yücel, with MPR News, was hit by a less-lethal munition in the shoulder and was transported to a hospital by ambulance. He has since been released and is recovering. Tim Evans, a freelance photojournalist with Reuters, was struck in the stomach with a pepper ball round. Aaron Nesheim, a photojournalist with Sahan Journal, was struck in the head with a pepper ball round. Evans and Nesheim did not require hospitalization. The three journalists hit by munitions shared with MNSPJ that they believe they were targeted by law enforcement for doing their jobs. Photojournalists are on the frontlines of documenting history and it is imperative that they are kept safe and their First Amendment rights are protected. Attacking journalists sends a message to both journalists and everyday citizens that their First Amendment rights will not be respected. The First Amendment protects the rights of journalists to report on their communities and provide information that communities need — information that, on Tuesday, was not transparently available from any law enforcement agency. We demand answers from St. Paul city leadership about why the city’s police department attacked our colleagues and a commitment to seeing that this will never happen again.

West Covina Police Officer Charged With Stealing Cash During Traffic Stops If convicted as charged, Jose Garcia faces up to four years in state prison and an additional consecutive one-year jail term WEST COVINA, Calif. – Felony charges have been filed against West Covina Police Officer Jose Garcia for allegedly stealing cash from motorists during traffic stops beginning in 2024. “Stealing from the very people you are sworn to protect is a profound betrayal of the badge,” Los Angeles County District Attorney Nathan J. Hochman said. “When an officer turns routine traffic stops into opportunities for theft, for their own benefit, it corrodes public trust and endangers the integrity of our justice system. We will use every legal tool at our disposal to ensure that officer is held fully accountable for these alleged abuses of power, and we will not hesitate to hold any law enforcement officials responsible for any crimes committed in the course of their duties.” West Covina Police Chief Antonio Cortina added: “While we fully support due process, any criminal conduct by an officer, particularly involving theft or abuse of public trust, is unacceptable and undermines our mission. We are deeply concerned that an officer may have violated the public trust and the fundamental principles of policing. We are committed to ensuring accountability.” Jose Antonio Garcia (12/24/86) of Long Beach is charged in case 25WCCF01222 with one felony count each of misappropriation of public funds and grand theft by embezzlement, as well as two misdemeanor counts of petty theft. He was released on a promise to appear in court for his arraignment on Jan. 28 in Department 4 of the West Covina Courthouse. On Sept. 21, 2024, Garcia conducted a traffic stop, searched the victim’s vehicle, and allegedly stole approximately $600 in cash from the victim’s wallet. He arrested the victim at the conclusion of the stop. On Nov. 23, 2024, Garcia allegedly stole approximately $100 from a passenger’s backpack during a separate traffic stop. The occupants were released with a verbal warning. On Feb. 8, 2025, the defendant conducted a third traffic stop and searched the victim’s vehicle, allegedly stealing approximately $300 from the vehicle’s center console. The victim was released with a verbal warning. If convicted as charged, Garcia faces up to four years in state prison and an additional consecutive one-year jail term. The case is being prosecuted by Deputy District Attorney Brandy Chase of the Justice System Integrity Division and is being investigated by the West Covina Police Department.

Police have access to massive surveillance networks that track the public whether they are suspects or not. That means probably for every 1 officer caught using the system to harass or spy on people they have feuds with, ex's, activists, journalists, there are probably 100 more we don't know about.

Mr. Mazzara then conveyed that legal advice, as well as his own legal advice, to Secretary of Homeland Security, Kristi Noem. See 6 U.S.C. § 113(a)(1)(J). After receiving that legal advice, Secretary Noem directed that the AEA detainees who had been removed from the United States before the Court’s order could be transferred to the custody of El Salvador. almost every novelist you read who's not from the airport fiction or bestseller sections is working a full on day job, including multi-award winners and absolute legends, or they have a spouse or trust that supports them. virtually across the board. just normalize in your mind that's how it works.
