I’ve spent a lot of Thanksgivings doing mental caloric accounting as I shovel handfuls of chips into french onion dip into my gullet. I’d sneak into the gym I worked at in the morning to workout hard enough to “earn” my food later that day. All thanks to body dysmorphia and an eating disorder.
I felt relieved of a burden considering how eating-based holidays like this are a driver of exceptional dread for people like me.

Every holiday is eating-based I suppose but this is the big one. The Super Bowl of binging. The normal Super Bowl is also the Super Bowl of binging but you follow me.

It’s wild to break story after story about the Trump administration meddling with solar and wind permits

And then hop on the phone with a member of Congress who told me he read all the stories and now it’s his top priority.

Anyway, that happened today. Read my big exclusive today in @heatmap.news
Trump Is the Biggest Wild Card in Permitting Reform
Congress is motivated to pass a bipartisan deal, but Democrats are demanding limits on executive power.

Police have access to massive surveillance networks that track the public whether they are suspects or not. That means probably for every 1 officer caught using the system to harass or spy on people they have feuds with, ex's, activists, journalists, there are probably 100 more we don't know about.

And the folks who are actually writing full-time generally only got there after years of day jobs, family support, or both.

The point of sharing this is not to demoralize anyone, but to let emerging writers know they're not failing if they can't make a living off writing alone. Almost no one can.
almost every novelist you read who's not from the airport fiction or bestseller sections is working a full on day job, including multi-award winners and absolute legends, or they have a spouse or trust that supports them. virtually across the board. just normalize in your mind that's how it works.
I know we know this, but authors need to get better at talking about how they actually make their money. Stop pretending it's from the books.

I make 90% of my income from the newsletter. The book deals people like me get are just not gonna make any money unless you sell 100,000 copies or whatever. That's not happening to my ass.
Earnest question: what is the way we *could* better support your work if the book sales are not the thing?
