We collect far less data than most OECD countries and we have no way of measuring a lot of stuff we need to measure. Carney knows that an ignorant population is a docile population. He's ensuring we stay ignorant.
Quite frankly, it’s outrageous that Mark Carney is cutting Statistics Canada. If he was Stephen Harper or Pierre Poilievre, I feel like this would be getting a lot more backlash.

This was so fun. My favourite thing is doing class visits, panel moderation, and guest lectures. If anyone else is looking for a critic/author with public speaking skills, get in my DMs!
Today @peterbcounter.com did a virtual visit with the Sociology 12 class I’m teaching and let me tell you—if you ever need an author to talk accessibly about sociological topics, he’s your guy. Today‘s topic was deviance through a pop culture lens, and it was a huge hit. Thanks again, Peter!

I've read that there are a number of cognitive behavioral traits associated with the far right, particularity around two things: an inability to straddle conflicting or complex ideas, and an extremely low threshold for disgust. When you combine these, you've got a real bozo on your hands.

If you meet people who support this shit, you'll find they're simply dumb. They flout ethics or principles because they don't understand them. Their first frustration is with a world that doesn't serve them personally. The brute force that follows is revenge for the embarrassment of being confused.

This. I am done returning to the status quo of what got us here. I want universal healthcare. I want a maximum wage tied to the minimum wage. I want omnipresent, cheap public transit and walkable neighborhoods. I want Supreme Court and police reform, and I want the rich to pay their fair share.
We need to pick up this Overton Window and throw it as far as we can. Stop waiting for shit to “be popular” and start advocating for what is transparently right.
