In a way, I think rapping and playing guitar at the same time is just as cute. Feels like a playdate.

And honestly, if that's news to you, how did you get here?

Anyway, thanks to everyone who participated in the conversation in good faith, even if you got mad at me.

Only two things annoy me about this situation:
1. I don't have a lot of time to write my books, which is my favourite thing to do.
2. There is a widespread public perception that authors with day jobs are illegitimate.
That second annoyance is what compelled me to post in the first place.

I personally believe in being my own patron. By working a full time job that supports my practice, I can be in full control of my creative output. I don't actually care that my books only pay for a few months worth of groceries every year between their royalties and PLR.

I occasionally supplement my income with freelance writing and event moderation (if you want me to write an essay or review, or to moderate your event, DM me!) and write my books in the mornings and on weekends.

People out there talking about hope while selling out our environment and turning their backs on the vulnerable. Shameful, of course, but also just pure loser shit. A stain of unlovability that will stay with them until they die with the rest of us.

The lyrics deal with all the QotSA themes of excess, filth, pleasure, pain, time, folly, and enlightenment. The music is orgiastic and flips between Josh's clowning snark, cool croon, and tender singing, all underpinned with sleazy synths and a pedal tone you could drive fast to.

I think the people who believe it conflate attention and success with traditional mainstream ideas of careerism, so they just assume all people who have books in stores must be doing it for a living. I remember people thinking Be Scared of Everything made me rich!
