Thank you to @sarahgailey.bsky.social for Spread Me, because I stayed up past 2 am to finish reading it. This is a great book that delivers on the premise “What if The Thing was immensely horny?” while examining desire, attraction, and sense of self.

Tonight, for the second time ever in my life, I baked a cake. It’s a belated birthday cake for my mom, and it’s her favorite: oatmeal cake. I was worried I wouldn’t get it right this time, because I figured the first time was a fluke. However, this one is also delicious.
An oatmeal cake with homemade frosting sits in an amber glass baking tray. The frosting consists of shredded coconut and pecans. The frosting was applied while the cake was fresh out of the oven, so it’s melted into the cake. Once the frosting was applied, it went back into the oven under the broiler to lightly roast the coconut. A closeup of a slice of oatmeal cake. I saw The Sad Bastard Cookbook here so I mentioned it on Masto (in a "in case you need this" sense). It kinda went viral (1K shares). It jumped to a high ranking on Amazon and then they got media attention.

I see some book piracy discourse, and, to make a positive argument in favor of buying books, your marginal ability to influence what books get published and support the careers of writers you like is massive compared to most other forms of media.
