Accountability thread for The Nameless Song, draft 6!

Going to do daily posts with word counts quotes/notes/etc about the WIP in which the dragon (ace guy) turns into a dragon (flying lizard) until the draft's done.

Bee pic is me. And also for the beeple. We'll get to them.

An anthropomorphic bee in a blue suit panics as they type away at a laptop with two hands while holding a red book in a third and gripping their head with a fourth. A tiny mug of tea (that's suspiciously honey-colored) sits beside them. The laptop has a beehive logo on the back, if you needed more cute.

Thinking of it in terms of a four-act structure instead of a five-act one, maybe being a third of the way through what I was hoping would be my final word count (125k max) isn't so bad, but I'm definitely going to have to trim Act I and stick to my plan of making Act II fairly brief. 🫠🫠
jaxwolffwrites.bsky.social
As far as I can tell, TNS will consist of four acts overall:

Act I: The Transformation
Act II: Sanctuary
Act III: The St. Nadia Colony
Act IV: The Dawnlit Gods

At the heart of each is a major beat that everything else is centered around, with each beat driving Mick's rise as a conductor.

Muscled through the stream and completed the chapter with 2964 words, in addition to the 438 I didn't log yesterday. Tomorrow, we're starting off with chapter 8, the first chapter of Act II.

We are also already at 39k words. 🫠

Going live now! Come and vibe or write alongside, from now until I finish this chapter. No real word sprints tonight and very minimal talking; I'm just streaming for accountability. :'D www.youtube.com/live/7BXy44C...

Finding the little joys in life doesn't mean ignoring the big terrors.

Flowers grow between the cracks of broken sidewalks all the time.

(Also, my bad: it was ink, not a full-on spray.

Not that that's the most important thing here.)
jaxwolffwrites.bsky.social
Oh, just a book printed with garlic ink. 😄

Alternatively: Exhibit [letter] for why booktok is a fascinating, wild concept.

(I'm not even throwing booktok under the bus here. If they namedrop you, y'all are involved.)

Admittedly, I'm not 100% up for talking/socializing today, but I've made a commitment to stream on Tuesdays. Today's Night Writes may be informal/with minimal responses, but I do want to push myself to finish chapter 7.

Here's a pic of Beenjamin nudging you/me to stay hydrated.
Beenjamin (a plush bee) uses his face to nudge a glass half full of water across a black table, towards the viewer. A laptop sits behind him.

I can't tell if it just *says* it is or if this is an actual thing, but . . . yep. www.hellmanns.com/us/en/craven...

Oh, absolutely agreed. In fact, I love the fact that folks collect books for tactile/aesthetic reasons. Like, as much as people made fun of the book with the garlic spray, it was getting an author another royalty check, lbr. But 100%, folks don't need to be ableist while defending books.
jaxwolffwrites.bsky.social
Huh. Why didn't anyone tell me that huffing book glue is a new standard of literacy?

(Seriously, what.)
jaxwolffwrites.bsky.social
See, *this* is why I love audiobooks. I don't need the accessibility myself, but hearing about someone else suddenly being free to enjoy something *because* of the thing I don't need is amazing. Heck yeah to your mom, and may she continue to read *voraciously*.
jaxwolffwrites.bsky.social
Absolutely. His world will definitely be fine with him running around, doing errands for the divine, when he barely has his life together as it is. Yep. Nothing to worry about. :'D
jaxwolffwrites.bsky.social
Honestly, this. I would also like to add that although health concerns are mentioned in this thread, visual impairments specifically are often missing in discussions about audiobooks. Like, that is literally why they were invented. Folks are, once again, shitting on a literal assistive device.

Hi, it’s me, an author and librarian-in-progress, here to tell you, yes, YOU, that every form of reading is valid. Ebooks, audiobooks, physical books, graphic novels, romance, old pulp books, the back of the cereal box, whatever. If it gets narrative to your brain, that’s good.
jaxwolffwrites.bsky.social
Thank you! :D I'd like to imagine that a massage from someone with four hands would be amazing, but I also like to imagine beeple would not know how to be gentle. They normally have to get through chitin and all. :V
jaxwolffwrites.bsky.social
He looks (and sounds) adorable!
jaxwolffwrites.bsky.social
Honestly, can't blame him. :'D

I desperately need actual art from him, not a severely outdated Picrew, but at least the face is pretty accurate here.

Anyway, Mick is talented at customer service and not realizing he's clever, and TNS is about him conning the dragons into fighting their own war/the gods into surrendering.
Picrew of a white man with bright, red/orange hair and matching eyes, standing against a background of trees while surrounded by roses. He's gazing at the upper left corner of the image with his mouth slightly agape, as if in slight bewilderment. His right hand is held up, curled towards him, index finger crooked. He's wearing a white button-down shirt under a gray waistcoat and red cloak. A green crystal hangs on a chain around his neck.

#LGBTQWriteAThon Mick Martin: Waiter. Fiddler. Disaster bi/ace. Reluctant dragon. Chosen one of a dead god. Initially cursed with *just* a lack of self-worth/magic/luck, he agrees to an adventure with his crush (to keep her gremlin ass safe) but winds up stumbling into a revolution against the gods.

Understandable. Your brain's like, "But we must REST first after completing this thing," amirite? :'D

Thank you! :D Fingers crossed!

Mentally installing bath houses/spas as a fixture of zizzun colonies because allogrooming is seen as a normal and important part of zizzun socialization. And also because how else are they getting their tails and wings cleaned?

Yes, it *is* very relaxing—until the bee masseuse gets *aggressive*.
jaxwolffwrites.bsky.social
www.instagram.com/reel/DPvfiX2... This is honestly the funniest bee video I've found so far. Yes, even funnier than the one that shows us bees crash into each other and can really suck at the whole landing thing. Because it's the *aggression* of allogrooming here.
