This is what you're supposed to do in our system when you fundamentally disagree with your own party/government on a matter of policy or principle. There's been too much blind water-carrying for your party in the last 20 yrs. Bravo, Monsieur Guilbeault, bravo.

I don’t know much about autism diagnosis but I’m pretty sure this ain’t right.
"Runctitiononal features"? "Medical fymblal"? "1 Tol Line storee"? This gets worse the longer you look at it. But it's got to be good, because it was published in Nature Scientific Reports last week: www.nature.com/articles/s41... h/t @asa.tsbalans.se

be the bigolas dickolas you wish to see in the world.
FWIW: Mention books you like or you think others might like. You never know what'll happen:

I saw The Sad Bastard Cookbook here so I mentioned it on Masto (in a "in case you need this" sense). It kinda went viral (1K shares). It jumped to a high ranking on Amazon and then they got media attention.
I see some book piracy discourse, and, to make a positive argument in favor of buying books, your marginal ability to influence what books get published and support the careers of writers you like is massive compared to most other forms of media.

Ukraine is clearly being punished for having survived this long.
REPORTER: What kind of concessions are the Russians going to have to make?

TRUMP: The big concession is they stop fighting and they don't take any more land

most modern Slavic words would give an anglophone an aneurysm.
Why in fantasy movies are ancient secret languages always m relatively easy to pronounce for anglophones? I have trouble saying shitsureeshimasu or smaoineachadh, but a gormless teenager can open any old grimoire and rattle off a whole sentence in forgotten tongue made to suit inhuman mouths?

maybe i have an entire space opera i've been sitting on for years that takes place across Saturn's moons, Jupiter's moons, and Mars? maybe there are no aliens, and it's just people grasping for power? maybe there's a lot about hydroponics in it?

will sell my soul to keep working with Diana Pho.
By the way, it's National Editor Appreciation Day.

Nobody ever reads a great article and thinks, "Dang, that was some tight editing." But editing is a big part of how it got to be great.

So writers, if you've ever worked with a good editor, shout 'em out.

The stakes are huge — and the company and its critics say regulations need to catch up.

Look, am I thrilled that a pigeon just went head-first into a restaurant window? No. Was it worth it to ruin a dinner of about 20 sorority girls? You decide.

fuck right off.
Saw a post today that advised writers to stop writing as if a human will read it and start writing for an LLM that will be summarising.

As someone who really enjoyed trying to develop a peculiar but readable authorial voice, I find this incredibly depressing.

most of the time, the idea isn't even *the* idea halfway through drafting the thing because the idea has sprouted its own wings and is now telling you to go into a different direction, and all the plotting and planning has to start all over again.
the idea is not all that counts. the idea is nothing at all until it has been lassooed, corralled, mutated, shuffled, blended with other ideas, and then expressed over the medium of however many thousand words that you have selected and arranged as best you can. the idea is a promise, not a book.
