Current progress of my project to watch ALL THE STAR TREK with my daughter (now 10): We've completed all seasons of TOS, TNG, DS9, + all movies, including Kelvin/AOS. (This has taken us 1.5+ years - it's 429 episodes and 13 films, after all!)

everyone should try and ship a rarepair at least once in their life. it is very fulfilling work. no fretting about numbers. just pure being unhinged about your favourite characters kissing. you appreciate every kudo and comment because the max capacity of interactions you'll ever hit is 10

Still thinking about JAWS. I'm fascinated by the dynamics at play between the three main guys (and Brody & Ellen, too). So many little character moments that, in a lesser film, would never have been thought of. So many things touched on that could've been spelled out but are left semi-unexplained.
So last weekend I had the total pleasure of taking my 10yo daughter to see JAWS on the big screen for the 50th anniversary. And just. It'd been a long time since I watched it, and somehow I'd forgotten: It is a perfect, 10/10, no notes film. Just so magnificent. JAWS forever, man. 🦈🦈🦈🦈

I don’t have any really big ones myself, but I have purposely engineered one for my daughter, which is that her first concert was Bob Dylan (2022, when she was 8, at the Fox in Oakland). She did not particularly enjoy it but SOMEDAY she’s going to realize what a cool fucking mom I am for that. :)

I feel like what people don’t understand about “explaining stuff to kids” (i.e. gender & sexuality) is that it’s actually a total breeze when they don’t start out with all the shit to *unlearn* that we had. Raise them knowing the truth from the beginning, and like literally your work is done.
as far as explaining gender to kids, "some people switch from boy to girl or boy to girl or whatever" is like a hundred times easier than explaining that we saw their teacher at the grocery store because she does not live at the school
