Sometimes my state does me proud.
Indiana’s Senate has voted AGAINST the GOP gerrymander that’d have locked in a 9-0 map.

This keeps the 7-2 map in place, saving two Democratic seats heading into 2026.

The vote failed big, 19/31.

The MAJORITY of the GOP senators opposed it!

In 1637, the Dutch East India Company hit a valuation of (adjusted for inflation) $10T. The company had a state-issued monopoly on *all trade from Asia,* and it used that power in support of a ruthless and brutal trade empire.

we all got cowed into avoiding "virtue signaling" as if the public affirmation of socially agreed upon ethical principles was somehow cringey instead of a significant part of what a "society" even is. now all there's left is vice signaling, and it's reshaping society.

This makes me want to flip tables.
There is no sight that more efficiently puts the lie to immigration “court” than the common sight of children “representing themselves.” Children too small to climb into the chair, children in pajamas who don’t know where they are, children not yet old enough to speak.

It's December 5. The statute of limitations on the kids' Halloween candy has expired, right?

When I first read this I just assumed it was some other organization that happened to have the initials "FIFA." But nope. Fédération Internationale de Football Association.

...Why are they giving out peace prizes? Is this a Guinness World Records/Michelin Star Restaurants thing?

If he's anything like this Area Dad, he's actually not getting new ones, he's just finding shirts he bought in 2011 in the back of his closet and bringing them into the rotation.

It's amazing that people can still be this misinformed.
The dirty secret of pies is that they have the lowest ceiling potential of all sweets. Your best pie is merely fine. Your median pie is bad.

Another way to write this title could've been "devices are costing more than ever in an economy where more Americans than ever are making less money than ever, and it's costing the economy" but CNBC decided to blame the poors.

"Make good purchases, make repairs, make it work, make do without it."
This will never be me - I bought an M4 Mac Air just before my book tour - but I think the premise of "device hoarding" here is ridiculous. With every major purchase, buy as well as you can and then use that thing until you can't use it any more. That's just sensible.

Americans are holding onto devices longer than ever and it's costing the economy
Americans are holding onto devices longer than ever before, and while it may be consumer smart, it comes at a cost to work productivity and the U.S. economy.

Huh, interesting. I wonder why that might be.

Oh hey look, the Affirm CEO also said that furloughed federal employees are starting to lose interest in paying their mortgages and car loans, too. And they're feeling "meh" on the idea of prescription medication and groceries.
