This is a shockingly condescending news story about a thuddingly condescending law.

What parents should *really* be explaining is that the government are a bunch of wankers making a big deal about Doing Something by rushing through legislation at the behest of the Murdoch family.

My latest for @eos.org is up! a new study of exoplanet systems shows that yes, Sun-like stars probably do eat their planets up, nom nom nom, and that's probably what will happen to Earth in 5 billion years or so. 🧪🔭

During today's hearing, @cdt.org suggested the House version of KOSA is preferable over the Senate version because the knowledge standard is narrower.

That's not right. While the House version uses "actual knowledge" (which is narrower) it also includes "willful disregard" which is quite broad.

Very similar to the trans-kids panic, where the prestige media narrative is that it's far too easy but you talk to any trans person, expert or parent and it's obvious that it's way too hard.
Once again, no one making these claims seems to understand the enormous hurdles in the way of getting a kid the help they need - in this case - I dare anyone suggesting this to go through an IEP process.

Oh by the way, AI people or anyone who relies on scraping data from the web, this matters for you as well. It says site owners have a duty to try and stop you.

Even though a giant stack of GDPR guidance from regulators says some scraping is OK, including when it picks up personal data.
I'm pretty sure the CJEU in Russmedia just casually dismantled 80% of the DSA with one ill-considered judgment. As I read it, it substitutes in GDPR rules -- not notice and takedown rules -- for any platform where a user is likely to post content about people. 1/

I missed this story from the other day about #KOSA possibly being shoved into the NDAA. Because of course they'd try.
