idk how to say this in a way thats sensitive, so here goes, the very on-line mean girls for Maoism thing that really dominates the trans conversation is actually bad for trans rights and just bad for trans people.
Felt the need to share my journal entry today. Don't know why. Here it is, make of it what you will.

It's extremely bad for left politics that we are apparently incapable of doing the internal hygiene required to keep these vicious bullies from claiming the mantle of "leftism"

He denied genocides and defended their perpetrators, yet some people manage to be surprised by this:
MIT's famous linguistic professor Noam Chomsky was in regular and close contact with sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, according to a review of emails published by the U.S. House Oversight Committee. In the documents, Chomsky described Epstein as a "highly valued friend."

You mean a guy who infamously stumped for the Khmer Rouge & minimized the genocide they committed displayed shockingly poor judgement in other areas of his life?

I’ll be damned if this is what actually brings down Chomsky. This man has built a career in denying genocides and his media theories have and will outlive him and continue his legacy of denying genocide and atrocities, just as they do now.

Many of the worst people I know who couldn’t vote for Harris but also have still managed to not join any protest or community actions are going to be engaging in some interesting acrobatics because of this.

“well i just wouldn’t run the world system” that’s just option 2, since you’re still morally responsible for everything you could have prevented but didn’t. the worst stain on Bill Clinton’s presidency wasn’t any intervention, it was the lack of one in Rwanda.

What if the political ideology of the people in charge of the armed forces impacts who gets bombed? Does anyone think Kamala Harris would declare war on South American fishermen? Could perhaps having people who think brown people are subhuman in charge of our military impacted matters?
What about the rights of LGBT people getting bombed?

He was afraid to ask for help because as a man you feel like you can't show "weakness". I wish I could've helped him more every day. Not a single person knew what was going on.

Great thread. My main critique of these movements it that they're often just replacing one temptation with another.

Hedonism, narcissism, and nihilism are indeed desires that need to be restrained.

But patriarchy is also a vicious desire- the temptation of control and dominance.
that desire is fundamentally good. Whether it is channeled into positive political and social projects, into spiritual transformation and holiness, or into reactionary hatred and destruction, remains to be seen, and is in part dependent on what old people like me do and say.

A lot of the guys signing up in our local DSA chapter are...young bearded dudes, and I don't think that's an accident. Young men are simultaneously deeply privileged in a material sense-they can indulge their passions endlessly in some ways-and are also disposable within wider American capitalism.

This is both stupid and vile. Accommodations do not curve your grade to avoid reflecting a disability. Accommodations give people with disabilities the time they need to demonstrate that yes, they do in fact grasp the material.
What does Josh Barro think grades should measure?

*Man creeps woman out of STEM*

“Huh, I guess women just aren’t that into… science”
If women are underrepresented in STEM, it's at least partly because men like this offer mentoring, then embarrass themselves by assuming their mentees must be into them, then decide the best solution is to cut ties, which sends the signal to other faculty that the mentee must not be good enough.
The emails have Summers reporting to Epstein about his attempts to date a Harvard economics student & to hit on her during a seminar she was giving.
