If you're considering following me, bear in mind that I'm a social butterfly, both in research (as a bioinformatician), and on social media. If there's news I want to spread, I'll repost a woman's report of it (if possible). "Like" means I like something, and have read it.

It’s also so unnecessary. Literally nobody is talking about universal public masking (even though we desperately need to), so you’re basically inventing a straw man to punch down at.

Which is also dick behavior.

Just to be clear:
(1) The old guard (both literally the older ones but also the spiritually/ideologically/tactically older ones) of the Democratic Party doesn't seem to understand the moment we're in.
(2) The competitive primaries (which are good!!) are going to prove that out.

Tbh when I see a prominent influencer caping for the Democrats at this particular point in time when they are literally popular with NO ONE, I have to assume someone is paying you to do it

And it makes me sad that you’re for sale

The best solution I can think of is to talk to the young women in our lives directly. Not publicly. Understand the pressures they are facing. Share your experiences. Sow intergenerational harmony, not division. Share the lessons you’ve learned, personally. But let them make their own decisions.

Winning with misinformation: New research identifies link between endorsing easily disproven claims and prioritizing symbolic strength

So for everyone who has said that comparisons between HIV and COVID-19 are inflammatory and irresponsible, I’m sharing this new article in the American Journal of Preventative Medicine that does just that and finds some clear parallels:

www.ajpmfocus.org/article/S277...
A screenshot of article highlights:

•
HIV/AIDS and COVID-19 are preventable infectious diseases with chronic systemic impacts including immune system dysfunction.
•
Chronic inflammation, immune exhaustion, and accelerated biological aging are shared hallmarks of HIVI/AIDS and Long COVID/PASC.
•
Tissue reservoir persistence drives long-term damage in both HIV and SARS-CoV-2. SARS-CoV-2 mirrors HIV-1 in its ability to evade immune defenses and cause chronic infection.
•
SARS-CoV-2 -associated neurological disorders (SAND) parallel HIV-associated neurological disorders (HAND).
•
Both pandemics exhibit failures in global solidarity and reveal inequities in healthcare access.

HIV is transmitted through body fluids and requires direct contact. COVID is airborne, so a person could just go into an area with a high viral load and get it. How many more human beings are likely to be exposed to and spread COVID compared to HIV?

Another #metagenome assembly algorithm for #PacBio HiFi data - introducing Alice!

I'll be very interested to see how this performs on some of our trickier datasets.

More broadly, I'm happy to see continual development of tools for long-read #metagenomics.

Yea, idk I remember saying something about how a lot of people's bar for racism is overt racism it makes a lot of problems invisible. If you're not actively on the receiving end, sure it's invisible and it seems like times were better when you were not actively confronted to take a look at yourself

I don’t know how to approach “Republicans weren’t racist in the early aughts” as someone who went to Texas during the early aughts and had to debate whether or not Black students were “stealing” people’s spots in class.

Well now, would you look at that?

A massive study of NEARLY 300,000 people in the United States found that receiving an updated 2024-2025 mRNA COVID-19 vaccine REDUCED people’s risk of severe disease AND death in ALL age groups, REGARDLESS of immunity from prior infection or vaccination.
