It's book press day! The AI Con is available where ever you find fine books! Check out thecon.ai for details.

@emilymbender.bsky.social and I think we wrote a damn fine book, and we hope you'll enjoy it too.

For a taste, check out the preview of Chapter 1, graciously published by LitHub.
On the Very Real Dangers of the Artificial Intelligence Hype Machine
As long as there’s been research on AI, there’s been AI hype. In the most commonly told narrative about the research field’s development, mathematician John McCarthy and computer scientist Marvin M…

I wish you were more employed!!

Last time we did this discourse, someone pointed me to openalex.org but I haven't explored it much.

I just saw a commercial for smartphone “AI” where a woman is standing at a flower shop asking her phone which flowers to buy and if they’ll last a few days.

Or she could, you know, ask the florist.

this guy is also doxxing women in other posts so @aaron.bsky.team if you want to at least remove the posts from 6 hours ago with phone numbers that resolve to imessage accounts that would probably be some relief to that one woman.

If you have white hair you might want to block this guy.

And dear god I am not 80.

And right. Not within 100 feet.

Based on your silver-gray hair, I presume you're almost as old as I am. I'm 80. You're reasonably good looking. I want to run my tongue across and between your lips.
But my face is so ugly that you would never let my face get within 6 feet of yours, right?

For a long time, I was very itinerant, and had to stick to digital media for my own convenience, but the AI-ification of everything is reminding me how important physical media remain.
Especially books.

Need a crossover theoryish book on white gay tech fascism. Thiel, Rabois, Helberg, etc.
alexhanna.bsky.social
yeah, I mean, I think the theory is there. I mostly want a contemporary analysis and the way it's crystalized into the current moment

Yes, it's whiteness and wealth. But also these gay boys like to make anything non-homonormative and trans their personal foil.

I really think it's a skill issue. Some people use them to do work they themselves can't do. (A few have told me as much directly.) When the machine gives something approximate, they 1) see the LLM as better than themselves, and 2) fail to see the shortcomings of the answer.

Sometimes you just can't tell people things. You just have to sit back and let them find out for themselves. Usually those people are children.

I'm just one person, and my programming needs are somewhat unusual (building various kinds of statistical forecasting models). But I'm just not seeing the consistent productivity gains from LLMs that I would have expected if you'd asked me 6 months ago.

Yes, although I'm glad Weizenbaum crashed out after making it. Can you imagine if Minsky made it...?

After spending 43 years in prison for a crime he didn't commit, evidence hidden by the prosecution reversed his conviction. Rather than finally enjoying freedom, ICE abducted him for deportation

I’ve finished writing a one page solo journaling game, and I’m looking for play testers!

Once Upon a Time in Palestine is a utopian (?) narrative game about returning home. Write your testament of how the world changed and changed you.

Lmk if you’re interested in testing it!

Furthermore, I have named this book “Disabling Intelligences” because the concept of intelligence is inextricable from the heart of eugenics and must be dismantled as a socially constructed, metrically derived, and algorithmically upheld category of oppression.

This book is titled “Disabling Intelligences” for many reasons. First, because so-called “AI” is built from historical commitments to the excision of disability from the classification of humanity.
