One of the most important works of literature in my life. This play opened my eyes to what was possible in drama, in comedy, in philosophy, in performance, in conversation with the past. My first play was an almost direct homage and I’ve been chasing it ever since. RIP to a true genius.

Checking to see if Tom Stoppard wrote any videogames so I can add to the discussion but not even one Call of Duty, not even a single existential Conker game on the résumé

It seems I've now seen enough media to pick many of the twists in new media i see, which sounds like a humble-brag but I'm not sure it'll improve my watching experience.

I will never understand how "clear surface" house people fill the draining surface with dirty dishes. It's the ONE PLACE in the kitchen that it's better to always keep clean.

A popular view of me is that I write ’woke‘ dialogue into videogames but unfortunately what I actually do is design and implement extremely competent game systems and write some of the most profane and ‘edgy’ dialogue into games allowed; unfortunately none of that is ‘edgy’ in a rightwing manner

Stoppard always feels clever in a way that so so many writers mimic, but everyone else copies the surface. the Stoppard magic is that the cleverness is impossibly thin, basically transparent, and there’s this unending well of feeling on the other side

RIP Stoppard. Rosencrantz & Guildenstern Are Dead remains one of my comfort watches, and in general I loved his work, cleverly metatextual and yet full of pathos and empathy for his characters, trapped within their fictions and their own natures.

RIP Tom Stoppard
Dazzling talent obviously but I loved that this was the line he wished he’d written.

RIP. I think this is a guy who tried, in general, to encourage people to be more thoughtful and aware.

A theatrical sensation since the 1960s, whose dramas included Arcadia, The Real Thing and Leopoldstadt, Stoppard also had huge success as a screenwriter

NEW: Over 50,000 people attempted to block the founding convention for the new youth org of the far-right AfD party on Nov. 29 in Gießen, Germany. Wide-ranging actions-including 19 blockades around the small city-prevented a majority of participants from attending. Police violently beat blockaders.

Labour already did the "we are going to stick to a budget", it was first-term Ardern and National had been bad but not Luxon bad, had not done quite the generational damage that this lot have done. Why run a boring, mediocre playbook when you can point at National's idolisation of the US?

this is an essay on this fucking stupid idea, just hitting the technical issues

it's time to cover this one. what are *your* favourite writeups on why data centres in space are just fucking stupid?
Datacenters in space are a terrible, horrible, no good idea.
There is a rush for AI companies to team up with space launch/satellite companies to build datacenters in space. TL;DR: It's not going to work.

Went to a food place tonight where I diagnosed— accurately, it transpired —that the eatery was bad simply by the length of the menu (and some other subtle details but that was the tell)

I'm quite smug about it.

She lost her brother and sister in the 2014 Gaza war and another brother and brother in law during this one. She is helping many of their children (I’ll list them in the replies) and her mother

Things that Labour will say 'yes' to:
1. We need 120,000 people unemployed (at least) to stop wages going up by too much.
2. Banks can extract $8bn a year in profits, because that's the price we should pay.
3. The market will eventually deliver affordable energy / food / rent - be patient comrades.
