There have been three major protests of the Trump era. Hands off had ~3 million people, the first No Kings had ~5 million people, and yesterday had ~7 million people. You certainly wouldn't know these were some of the largest protest in American history from reading the New York Times the next day.

Another photo of Doug Emhoff at No Kings in Santa Monica yesterday.

If Kamala had won we’d be at brunch. 🤭
At what point does this start to worry the GOP politicians?
Good evening. We estimate that between 4.2 and 7.6 million people turned out for the No Kings Day demonstrations held around the country on Saturday. This makes Oct 18 very likely the biggest single-day U.S. protest event since 1970. www.gelliottmorris.com/p/second-no-...
Second "No Kings Day" protests likely the largest single-day political demonstration since 1970, with 4.2-7.6 million participants

Brilliant photo.
Portland ICE facility now.
It's hard not to wish at least 40% or more of the country wasn't either willfully stupid or out and out evil, but we have to see it and deal with it. Being an ostrich about our situation won't help anyone. It's an uphill battle, against powerful news orgs backed by a vocal, very solid base.
His main problem is coming up with some esoteric offbeat takes and never admitting he is wrong.

It doesn't make all his posts good or whatever but the fact that Stancil actually ran for public office speaks very well of him. The same impulse is at work here.
Say what you want about Stancilism but the man himself is on a generational posting run

Agree. I'm in a purple state, and believe me, the more rural the worse it gets.
There are red states. I'm in OK and while the cities are purple ish, anything the state votes on as a whole is overwhelmingly red. In fact as turnout increases it actually gets redder.

Progressives love to think that every red state is hiding a tranche of leftist rednecks, but it's just not true.

every smug internet communist tweet about showing up to a No Kings protest with an abolish ICE shirt to scare the libs is getting completely mogged by the real-life winemoms showing up with slogans like "ICE will melt in hell"

It is genuinely a wonderful thing in this horrible time to undertake acts of resistance and protest that are also extremely funny. Joy is resistance.

all these people protesting today in groups of a few dozen on the main streets of small towns in deep red Trump country - where they will absolutely take shit from their neighbors about it at church tomorrow or at work on Monday or next time they go to the grocery store - are braver than the Marines
It is also why we haven't saw any of them saying just go watch his interviews, because it is obvious.
Seriously? That's fantastic because I thought they'd been successful in convincing a huge number of normies that he was some great person.

various 70 plus years old I know have expressed opinions like "I would strangle Miller with my bare hands" and "the old people should do the bombings because we have less to lose"

Telling moment: I was walking back from the rally, but a couple miles from it, carrying nothing but my gigantic American flag. An eight year old on his bike sees me with it and yells "No Kings!!" with absolute conviction.

My friends, they have lost the flag.
It's just a tiny sword. Very symbolic of him.

Really think the biggest win today aside from just numbers is negatively polarizing the regime of 12-year-olds into fully adopting #YESKINGS as their official stance.

lol “No Kings” is such brilliant branding because Trump’s people are such inveterate reactionary shitposters that their only reaction is, can possibly be, “oh him being a king triggers you? Then yeah he’s a king, he should be the king forever.”

Amazing that “No kings and no Nazis” is suddenly a controversial slogan and up for debate in 2025. These are the two most basic creeds of American history.
