“When they rob us of art and emotion, that leads us towards the aesthetics of fascism. In this film, all the sets are real, the decor is human-sized, there are painstakingly created miniatures... It’s there to remind us that art is not only necessary, it is urgent. And AI can go fuck itself!”

two reasons for this:

1) some people tried to give really helpful advice on making sophisticated and interesting villain characters and that eventually morphed into "the villain should be just like the hero if the hero messed up" (dark mirror shit)

and 2...
I'll say it: I think its rly annoying and frankly amateurish that writers are constantly told their villains must be understandable or have sympathetic motivation to be interesting or realistic when all our big villains irl are in fact rich, stupid, selfish, trickster dillweeds and always have been

Makoto Yukimura was worried that Vinland Saga's farming arc and "I have no enemies" moment was a gamble that readers wouldn't like. I told him about the J. Cole meme from the Kendrick Lamar and Drake rap beef. This is how he reacted.

When I went to Pokémon I had lunch the week before I left with Neal Suggs, who was my last boss at Xbox and was in many ways the reason I left. (He’s at Google now.) He gave me the most important leadership tip I ever got. /1
Here’s a thing I’ll add, as someone who’s been there: if you’re the CEO of a platform with millions of users, you don’t get to have as much fun on that platform, period. And your job is to eat shit every time a legitimate critique of policy comes up. That’s the gig. Don’t sign up if you aren’t game.
i am catching up on the moderation discourse and it’s really annoying that this episode basically goes back to leadership trying to have a goof and a gag. there’s not a lot of room-reading happening which comes across as immature and unprofessional

If "AI" was as valuable as they say it is, they wouldn't be selling it to you. They'd be using it themselves in secret to make the next Minecraft, the next Avatar, the next Hello Kitty and then they'd sell that to you.

They're trying to sell you a sick goose, while pretending it lays golden eggs.

"why would you deny yourself an opportunity to become stronger" is really my whole life mindset, so of course I also apply it to video games
💯 hahaha. it's def colored my perspective on this whole discourse bc my evergreen kneejerk reaction is like, why would you deny yourself an opportunity to become stronger?? but ofc not everyone is here for that
That some "Wise Words" right there! Genuinely tho, it's rad a hell seeing Toby repeatedly encourage people to be creative throughout the stream and validating all the fan creations and AUs Undertale has inspired!

Genuinely powerful words to live by.
I genuinely appreciate and think it's rad as hell seeing Toby validate all the creativity and AUs Undertale inspired.

Given how much of the games industry is a shitshow dedicated to beating the creativity out of people, I'm genuinely joyful to see a prolific Undertale/Deltarune modder hired to make edits to the game for a one-off event stream.

More of that!

Make it because you must, because it's like eating and drinking to you. Because something deep inside you screams every second you ignore what you truly wish to do. Make it because you are here now, and it is for you and no one else

I simply cannot stress it enough.

You cannot sit this out.

They are coming for EVERYTHING. No media, no creators are safe under these policies. They want us poor, they want us criminalized, they want us disenfranchised.

Call paypros. Call your reps. Do SOMETHING.
Woke up to quite the update on this. I had been in contact with Payment Cloud about getting their service and they waited until now to hit me with the image below. Again, stringing me along instead of being upfront. They had seen my website multiple times before this.

I am sincerely hands and knees begging people to do this.

The existential threat is getting pretty immense and it's not slowing down, not with the gov't *openly stating* that "consensual porn" is in the crosshairs.

*Please* call. Please write physical letters. Please keep the pressure on.
This is one of those things btw where calling/mailing VISA et al and being as willfully dense as possible is an amazingly good idea.

Bring up everything you own that falls under the category 'fantasy.'

Bring up everything you own with cat ears.

Be a pedantic little fuck about ALL of it.

Following up on this, it's probably the first game I would ever say playing through the first game is mandatory, not for story reasons, but as a genuine on ramp to the games challenge. It feels like as if Shadow of the Erdtree was twice the size of Elden Ring. It's fucking incredible.
Going through Silksong it's pretty clear it was made by a dedicated and obsessive group of guys that were so used to playing their own game they forgot what it was like to be a normal person. I'm absolutely loving it but shits crazy. It's meaner than a Dark Souls game.

I've seen many people try to explain why bluesky is "boring" to them and they just end up describing social media addiction.

"Bruh I get on bluesky, see a few posts, then log off. But on twitter I stay scrolling all day!"

THAT IS BAD. YOU HAVE BECOME A DOPAMINE ZOMBIE. ARE YOU NOT HEARING YOURSELF
"Bluesky is boring."

Social media *should* be boring. Being algorithm and dopamine poisoned is bad, actually.

When your feed dries up for the day, that's your cue to go do something else until new stuff shows up later.

I considered writing a long carefully constructed argument laying out the harms and limitations of AI, but instead I wrote about being a hater. Only humans can be haters.

I am an AI hater. This is considered rude, but I do not care, because I am a hater.

I am in a whole ass group chat of trans people, many of whom are down at the Texas Capitol sitting in on a bathroom bill hearing, and the mood is better in that group chat than on this website
it’s really damn bleak right now & it’s hard to feel good about anything but some trans folks out there are 100% determined to make sure every trans person is exactly as panicked as they are in a way that’s not additive or informative & i’m not sure that’s helpful or what solidarity looks like.

Online age verification is not like "showing ID to buy alcohol" because

a) the liquor store doesn't get to scan your ID and store a digital copy of it forever in a database that will inevitably get hacked

b) you don't have to show ID to go to the library because they have cocktail recipe books

Art is an act of love. Oh, sure, we do it for a paycheck or because we're bored or whatever, but I think deep deep down, art is our way of giving something of ourselves to other people
