Reminder - this is the same guy who got his start making ZZT - a program that made it easy for everyone to make simple ascii-graphics videogames and share them with others. That was about as far away from "Just use AI" as you could get.

I've said before that I think a lot of games would benefit from thinking about their music more like a music video than like a movie.

The World Ends With You series is probably the best example of that I could possibly come up with

Do you know how much praise XSeed got for the silly treasure chest messages in Trails in the Sky FC? Or when I get complimented for the writing in our games, most of the time, they mention the short enemy descriptions.
i take frenzy damage every time i see someone go "well i just use it for the boring stuff". what are you TALKING about? if it's boring or unimportant, why are you putting it in? NPC dialogue is fertile ground for worldbuilding, creating verisimilitude, conveying important information, and hijinks!!
Buy a solo indie dev's game because I want to support them.

Find out it uses OpenAI to write "non-important NPC dialogue".

Justifying piracy of creative work because we're all "rich" is ridiculous. My feed is dominated by:

1) Indies trying to get their game noticed so they can keep making games.
2) Developers who just got fired and are looking for new gigs.
3) People begging for tips to pay rent & bills.

Remember your favorite creator possibly might be struggling with imposter syndrome and doubt and this timeline sucks.. so if you find yourself thinking “wow I really relate to this persons work” or that persons work gives you joy, you should probably tell them. It’s a hard time to be a creative.

Battletoads is a great game that is made infinitely better by the addition of save states so that you can just save your game at the start of each level.
NES and GameBoy Classics added to NSO:

NES:
-Ninja Gaiden II: The Dark Sword of Chaos
-BATTLETOADS

Game Boy:
-Kid Icarus: Of Myths and Monsters
-BIONIC COMMANDO

I think I'll forever have a soft-spot for Analgesic Productions' games. No two are alike mechanically or even thematically, but they have a shared dreamlike feel to them. Fragmented worlds, strange prose and the *feel* of what videogames are below the surface.

Their next, Angeline Era, drops soon.

We do rechargeable items and get praised for it. Also, seen in the FromSoft Action/RPGs. And Paladin's Quest / Lennus way back when.

And there's the "Just make it so hard enough that you require items" approach - aka roguelikes.

I'm glad I don't know how many people have pirated my games, because that knowledge would just be depressing.

Don't steal creatives' hard work. Pay for it or go without. If you're broke, there are plenty of legitimately free things out there to enjoy in the meantime.
I posted a buy link here to "A Magical Inheritance" a few days ago, and 24 of you immediately went to Anna's Archives and fucking stole it from me.

Yes, stole it.

I do not get paid for your download there because YOU ARE STEALING FROM ME.

Path of Exile officially left beta and started v1.0 over a decade ago.

If you look at the reddit forums now, people talk about how each new league is "dead" in less than a week because they're already farming the uber post-campaign bosses. Their experience is so far from that of an average player.
3. As a game goes on, the average skill of the remaining players get higher and higher

4. As a game goes on, the novelty wears off for long-time players and they focus more on min-maxing and achieving.

5. As a game goes on, the hardcore are increasingly the easiest to hear feedback from

Play more indie JRPGs.
does anyone have it harder than jrpg players who respect women
November 24, 2025 at 12:11 AM
It's crazy that the games where every party member is female are still just hovering around 50%. And FF6 is an ensemble cast, but the two leads (Terra & Celes) are both female and it's one of the lowest ratios.

Our magical girl JRPG, This Way Madness Lies, is mostly female-spoken like you'd expect!
