Outside the link I just posted, I haven't been there recently, so I didn't realize it had gotten so bad. It was a great way to go down some rabbit holes.

Agreed. But that brings up the question of how do indies manage to reach people outside that core nostalgic demographic?

Like with This Way Madness Lies, I think it could find a bunch of fans among other demographics, but I have no idea how to let them know it exists.

Don't just copy Octopath Traveler. You can still do 2.5D if you want - plenty of 2.5D games exist that don't look like Octopath Traveler.

Yeah, back in the day, games would do 2.5D and still look different from each other. Grandia looks different from Breath of Fire 3 which looks different from Xenogears which looks different from Shining the Holy Ark.

The usual. Posting on social media. Youtube videos. Podcast. A discord channel. Hired a videogame marketer briefly but it didn't seem to make any difference.

My favorite comment on this was that the most unrealistic thing about Star Trek was how efficient and effective their meetings were.

Think how bizarre this would be in reverse.

Beyond Good & Evil 2 only playable in the theater arcade if you have a ticket for Avengers: Doomsday!

Right back at you. :)

Oh, the complaint about the bug and the writing complaints were completely unrelated.

And I know firsthand how tricky some bugs can be to isolate and fix even if you know they exist.

Thanks!

Isn't it crazy late over there right now? Hope you can get some sleep.

Wow, getting killed in a mandatory non-interactive cutscene is a new low.

Planescape: Torment has mostly taught me that:

1) People desperately want RPGs with unique settings.
2) Most people can't judge writing quality.

I've never thought of it this way, but that feels accurate to me. I hate it when videogame soundtracks try to emulate movies. I want my videogame music to sound like videogame music.

I've said before that I think a lot of games would benefit from thinking about their music more like a music video than like a movie.

The World Ends With You series is probably the best example of that I could possibly come up with

I also found out about this recently. Although to be fair, I've always known I'm bad at cooking.
