the irony is that "gentrifier" is a pejorative mostly used by people who are demanding legal reforms grant them permanent rent of some kind for either 1) doing nothing, 2) doing the unnecessary, or 3) owning land, or being located in a certain place -- ie, people demanding to be made gentry

Earlier this year the people at 60 Minutes urged me to overcome fear and speak on camera about what it's like being a lawyer being targeted by Trump. When I did, they lavished me with praise -- noting I was the only person willing to do it.

Now it is their turn to show courage.

Since his appointment, RFK Jr. has pursued a brutal vision of American health that several experts liken to a sort of eugenics. Kennedy has made it clear that certain deaths are acceptable or even preferable to a world where every child is vaccinated.

The problem with this piece, like all the other pieces, is that the missing hed, dek, & lede is that all of this was wildly illegal, unconstitutional, & criminal. This is how you normalize lawless authoritarianism - treat like just another story in our politics. “Transformation” is lazy euphemism.
This WaPo piece weaves together an incredibly powerful story about the way Trump has devastated government and the dedicated people who wake up every day to serve the public. wapo.st/4b14KAy

When you see Republicans using grants for weird sounding animal experiments as a justification to cut research funding, this is what they are using
By combining 8 different nanobodies isolated from alpacas and llamas following immunization with snake venom - this research team has produced an antivenom that not only protects against 17 different snake venoms but also protects from tissue local damage, a major problem associated with bites.
Single antivenom protects against 17 different snakebites
Researchers immunized an alpaca and a llama with snake venoms, and combined some of the antibodies produced into a potent cocktail.

I don’t think you can blame “profit driven private equity” for refugees arriving in the US without housing lined up.
Yeah no it is your responsibility as a poster to make sure you don't post sentences like "lots of people moved to the US without setting up housing" if what you really mean is "recent immigrants are being priced out of housing by profit driven private equity"

The latter properly places the blame.

honestly, “it’s because they’re still mad about the New Deal” is a pretty good guiding hypothesis for a lot of stuff
The standard story was that 1950s religious revivals were about contrasting America with the godless commies of the USSR, but I found material that hinted at an older well funded campaign that reframed the revival as a corporate pushback against the New Deal.

So I followed that unexpected thread!

imo the actual threat to capital-A America is not the Trump administration but that the Trump administration's behaviors will not be disincentivized enough

flip-flopping back and forth between breaking things and fixing things every 4-8 years means eventually it'll stay broken
Stuff like this will obviously be very easy to undo and clearly will be undone, like it would be totally non-controversial even with the most milquetoast new Dem POTUS you could imagine, but it is genuinely just Not Good when even the basic names of institutions start ping ponging every 4-8 years

I literally had a “radical leftist” unironically tell me on here it was Biden/Harris’s job to break the law, launch a coup, and disappear their political opponents. I didn’t really continue the conversation beyond that, because how can you explain to that kind of person their solution is bad.
I really don't care what Joe Biden did or did not do. I'm making a point about the responsibility of voters to keep the fascist party out of power.
