I’m at a loss for words, and it’s not because I’m surprised; rather, I’m in near despair at the sheer level of coarseness and vulgarity to which large swathes of our polity have sunk. There is an entire portion of our population with absolutely no urge to decency, and it’s heartbreaking.

I’ll never understand his antipathy for trans people. Only the TERFs and the “gender critical” types have his ear, and he seems completely unwilling to hear from anyone else. And if you don’t word this very clear cut and easy to understand criticism with great care, you’ll get screamed at.

1. Yesterday, the press gave Gavin Newsom favorable coverage for signing pro-LGBTQ+ bills.

Little noticed, however, was that he vetoed one of the most important ones: a bill allowing trans people 12 month HRT stockpiles, protecting them from federal threats.

God that book sank its claws into me and did not let go. Even now I think about the tragically human characters, the rightness or wrongness of actions taken and not taken and how beautiful the allegories work throughout the novel. Anything I can say more would go into spoilers. Amazing book.

Thinking fondly of all the pre-election fact-checks that said we couldn’t possibly know whether Republicans wanted to get rid of pre-existing condition protections.

• New Mexico Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham said that Trump and his running mate, Sen. JD Vance, "want to ... repeal the Affordable Care Act and elim nate protections for preexisting conditions." It's unclear what Trump would do, since he hasn't released a plan to replace the ACA. He said he would do so, if "we can come up With something that's better."

Schumer, meanwhile, was wrong to
say, as he did on the Senate floor April 28, that the bill goes "back to the day when insurance companies could deny coverage to those with pre-existing conditions."

competing claims on whether the latest version of the GOP health care bill maintains protections for people with preexisting medical conditions. President Trump has said, "Pre-existing conditions are in the bill. And I mandate it." Democratic Sen. Chuck Schumer has said that
"insurance companies could deny coverage to those with pre-existing conditions."
Neither of those comments quite gets it right. The latest version offers lesser protections than the Affordable Care Act, but it doesn't allow insurers to deny coverage to someone with a health
