You ever think about how conscious time is basically the most valuable thing we have and it’s been commodified for us to labor for other people’s benefit and all the objects around the world are the embodiment of people’s lives spent on this process :)

Apparently the decision of the WI to rescind trans inclusion was prompted in part by an internal faction. If I were a cis member of the WI, I would want those bigots named, shamed and shunned.

Aggressively promoting transphobia should have social sanctions applied to it.

I was watching a thing on youtube today and it was interspersed with completely unnecessary little sora clips (which btw made me not want to deal with the company in question again). that'll be the growing use case for this stuff -- throwaway things that function a bit like advertising
An estimate of the energy cost of producing one single 10 second Sora video: one kilowatt hour.

- Deplete and then recharge your iphone 17 68 times
- 10% of daily German household use
- 5.5 hours of Netflix
- ~4hrs of gaming

This is probably a huge underestimate

Of course, British institutions (esp. the media) have never needed much encouragement to embrace fascism. It's just very strange that an *overseas* election was the trigger for going full-throttle. Almost as if the UK isn't really ruled from London, but from Washington. Almost.

I've seen Americans rightly point out how weird it was that their media, business, and public institutions immediately acted as if Trump's narrow election win meant **everyone** was an eager fascist now.

It's even weirder that Britain's institutions did exactly the same. Wasn't even our election.

wes streeting's real problem with the bma is that they told him the cass review is anti-science bollocks and that his policies are transphobic.

you can just point your infinite lawfare hose at trans inclusive organisations now, that's the lesson they've learnt. something the labour government could fix in an afternoon with their super majority if they felt like it www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2025...

the example of (no longer boy) scouts was pointed out to me so it’s obviously possible
am I being absolutely dumb or could the girl guides not simply change their official name to something like 'guiding for girls and trans girls', amend the constitution and that would be it? similar for the women's institute?

Or just “The Guides”? Its been a while since I was involved but didn’t the Boy Scouts become just Scouts in the 70s?

Like I say, its been a while so Im probably missing a nuance or several.

The difference is social class
transphobes using money and power to bully little kids is absolutely no different from mobs turning up to intimidate refugee families, and you should treat anyone who so much as excuses either of these things with complete contempt

1/🧵 The body of law on statutory interpretation was developed precisely to prevent situations in which unintended consequences and uncertainty spread. In this instance, the court abandoned its traditionally cautious role and acted in an activist manner, it was, in effect, no longer applying the law.
I wonder if the UK Supreme Court Judges were really both so legally inept that they thought the Equality Act 2010 implicitly overruled the Gender Recognition Act 2005, and so politically inept that they didn't foresee a slew of cases giving the lie to their claim it wasn't a victory for either side.

I hope the Greens and independents manage to unite behind a candidate in his wafer-thin majority seat.

you gotta remember that from a conservative perspective, these programs are a failure. they don't want to reduce homelessness, they want to punish homeless people. they'd pay 10x as much for that happily
An Oregon pilot program giving cash to homeless youths sees a staggering reduction in homelessness. The program gave participants $1,000 cash payments each month for two years, and at the end of the project's first phase, 91% of participants reported being in stable housing.

again, you sort of go through your life thinking that while you don’t *like* these people they must at least be clever and capable and it always turns out they’re not fit to manage a costa

She says social media influenced “not just the usual suspects” but also “young Jewish Americans who don’t know the history and don’t understand.”
