This, so much this
I've seen it play out so many times and it continues to do so
You've gotta be loud and brave, friends. You've gotta call out the abusers of every type when you see it or you're part of the problem.
[Person] got disproportionate power and continues to hurt people because [specific people] could have said something when it could have mattered but instead stayed silent and created a chain of validation to abuse is every story but we still won't address it.

This is a whole vibe and I am HERE for it. Makes me think of the kind of vintage jewelry that I dreamed of finding as a baby goth. Worth every penny.

While I was a regular DJ, I quit drinking and experienced some of the worst peer pressure of my life. This was from fully grown adults who couldn't seem to grasp that I could run the party and be sober.
I had to pre-arrange with the bartender to give me fizzy water with a lime if people insisted +
seasonal reminder that if someone says they don't drink:
-it's none of your business why
-hosts should have several non-alcoholic beverage options
-the holidays can be a tough period for non-drinkers
-many jokes about not drinking are bad
-people are burned out and might just be tired

Didn't watch the parade [sooo many commercials] and this was the only thing I wanted to see anyway. And it did NOT disappoint [I knew it wouldn't]

I hope it's their moment for a very long time.
Okay, the crowd going nuts like someone just scored a touchdown at the Super Bowl all *through* the KDH performance is a hell of a thing to see hear/see:

I don't really do Thanksgiving because, you know, the colonialism and genocide erasure, but I do like the idea of gratitude and today I'm grateful for the people who, even years later, think of me often enough to see a silly meme that screams "me" and drop it into my inbox

That's a form of love

If writing is so easy why do people argue that they can’t do it without the pablumatic verbiage extruder

And if it’s so difficult then why do people think it’s not labour and writers are not workers

I'm old.

If you're not, listen to this.

Get a guitar or some drums, or a trumpet. Pick up a brush, a pencil, some clay or a welder.

Just make shit. It doesn't have to be good (eventually it will be) just make music, art or write or whatever.

It's literally never been more important.

ICYMI yesterday, here it is again...
Including a link to my charity mugs - all proceeds go to Leftover Love, Inc, who rescue businesses' leftover wholesome food for those in need ultimately reducing both food waste and those who go hungry. [plus mugs and ravens are cool]
It's tiiiiime! For more mostly-sensical ramblings! From Xiaaaaaanne! [that's meeeee]

This post's got it all: holiday update in the form of listicles, too many emoji, charity mugs, an ARC opportunity, some worthy links.

be the bigolas dickolas you wish to see in the world.
FWIW: Mention books you like or you think others might like. You never know what'll happen:

I saw The Sad Bastard Cookbook here so I mentioned it on Masto (in a "in case you need this" sense). It kinda went viral (1K shares). It jumped to a high ranking on Amazon and then they got media attention.
I see some book piracy discourse, and, to make a positive argument in favor of buying books, your marginal ability to influence what books get published and support the careers of writers you like is massive compared to most other forms of media.

This thread is very educational plus there's a linked spreadsheet that will tell you a LOT about who gets paid well, and for what...
As a self-pubbed author, this was some of the info I researched before making a decision
I'm going to do a little thread on how the money from books works for traditionally published authors because people have questions, and this is always useful info to share IMO. First, a big disclaimer that every contract is different, and there are a million factors that can change things. 1/
