I don't care if a non-disabled person accesses a disability accommodation for the same reason I don't care if a child whose parents are rich gets free lunch at school. We don't need to means test being a kind person. I have better things to do with my time than be a cop over social services.

I can't even speak on how angry I am that we've spent years trying to get a biography of an important trans woman picked up by publishers but this ethics- and talent-free incurious child had the entire media and publishing world just throwing money and attention at her

the most frustrating thing about Captain Atom's '87 series is that it only goes a third of the way in being anti military and Reagan. Bates+Weisman waste a bunch of time on a labyrinthine conspiracy, meanwhile the whole subject of the war and its horrible effects is mostly window dressing

Agents in Key Largo, Florida ripped this woman wearing medical scrubs out of her car as she screamed she is a US citizen. Agents cuffed her and put her in one of their cars.

She was eventually let go, per David Goodhue of the Miami Herald, who also took this footage:

This is one of those things that I think is quietly important – when these people are talking shit about cities, Portland or Minneapolis or New York or Charlotte or wherever, you have to loudly say, “no, fuck you, you’re lying, that town and its people whip ass and you’re the asshole”

or you could just read his 86 series tbh
I feel like Captain Atom had gotten a bad rap from moment one in the DCU. He could have been their Steve Rogers man slightly out of time, but he's kind of not cool. Ready to be not cool. DC KO Superman vs Captain Atom is a study on the character's history, mannerisms, & powers if you're curious.

Sorry. I've been Counterculture my whole adult life. Want a revolution? Want CHANGE? LIVE IT, and it doesn't include opting into the dominant society/culture.

Ps. I was AT the stonewall. Come at me. LGBT was COOPTED into mainstream just as surely as the 'hippie' was. Target market and EVERYTHING.

btw, every "reasonable" person who's own posting stuff like "well, the prompt was unclear," or "she actually kind of did the assignment OK so maybe the TA overreacted"--you are also part of the problem! You're laundering the deliberate targeting of a TA and a blatant abrogation of academic freedom!
This thread is 💯. Labor precarity in academia means the evisceration of faculty governance and academic freedom, opening the door to administrative purges of the most vulnerable. And faculty-esp tenured faculty and academic leaders-who aren't defending their trans colleagues are enabling it.
So yeah, this is fundamentally about trans people and that cannot be elided, but the ways in which junior faculty are targeted and disposed of, while academic jobs are increasingly precarized, and political grandstanders seek to influence academic governance are fucking terrifying for everyone.

It's very annoying that a trans TA now has to convince everyone that her transness did not impact her grading when everyone should be asking if the student's transphobia did not impact said student's poor performance or even her selection of the class in question.
This is a terrible story--both because of the trap that was set (either in advance or ret-conned to seize a moment) for this graduate student but also because the student's department failed her. The 1st problem is easy to see, but I want to explain the 2nd one. 1/x

When I think about how much money I have spent on this man (2 BlackStar shows, several albums purchased) I feel so upset.

we are well past the point at which anyone who cannot identify bad faith like this is disqualified from commenting on it

the girl and her mother are basically screaming THIS IS A BAD FAITH ATTACK ON TRANS PEOPLE at the top of their lungs and if you can't see that you're stupid or lying
a lot of people debating the merits of that dogshit essay meanwhile the girl’s mom is retweeting demands to ban all trans people from teaching at any level. it’s forest for the trees shit

Here's a note I sent to our members about what we did with their money, and why we expect the Onion to outgrow the Washington Post.

We keep doing weird, hard shit — taunting ICE, yelling at Congress for not taunting ICE, buying bad websites — when nobody else does.

Our members keep getting papers.

I feel much safer today knowing that we deported a Babson College student back to a country where she hasn't lived since childhood.

She wasn't even flying internationally. She was flying to Texas.
