I think the beverage industry generally is just much more diverse over there in terms of offerings. Here a handful of big companies have the market cornered.

A lot of fruit is intended to be given as gifts or intended for high end preparations (like sushi-grade fish, you know?) But if you can find an actual grocery store you'll have better luck.

Also, unlike here, I found that often supermarkets would be pricier than little mom and pop stores.
