Forest of the Morning is based (loosely) on our 17th century, so it's horses & sailing boats all the way.

EXCEPT they have magical pterodactyls living in this world (Quetzalcoatlus sp.) so of course Fish gets to bond with one & can go much longer distances 🤩

Swallowsaw ( #DogwoodWIP) is an odd place: horses outnumber cars.

Owen has an antique car (currently a Galaxie but might edit to Fairlane). Anyone with a motor vehicle in Swallowsaw has to be able to do repair/maintenance themselves or pay someone else to. (1/4)

I usually describe my characters in neutrals like brown/grey/black because their clothes are either imported secondhand or made of local wool, leather, etc.

They do have blue jeans!

There's a private militia, with divisions like arborists and reserves; individuals are called rangers (not to be confused with the more benign Park Ranger protecting our wilderness areas IRL; dogwood is alternate timeline).

Dogwood's rangers operate as a sort of border guard and secret police.
