Happy #humpday (to those of you living in the past 😝), here is a snip from page 149 of A Prayer for the Pirate Queen 🏴‍☠️💜⚓️ currently revising towards a third draft
She woke at the first chime, disoriented for a moment, and went through to observe her patient. Kallista’s breathing was normal, her limbs left where they had been before, presumably too sore even in sleep. Not like how Geni remembered, Kallista’s limbs artlessly akimbo when she woke up beside her on their first morning together. Chiding herself for remembering what she shouldn’t, she laid the diagnostic prayer roll down beside Kallista and silently recited a prayer to Saint Seraphina.

#LoreOutLoud Oooh this is a good question.

As a queer writer, I think I'm finally ready to own the in-between spaces. Up until fairly recently I always tried to go to extremes to make a point. It's fine to exist in the gray spaces, and that makes the extremes shine more intensely when needed.

My writing niche is valuable.

I write asexual, aromantic getting-together adventure stories, with all sorts of gender variation. I have a trans man, an agender individual, a genderfluid individual (Wardens), and the occasional cis person.

There is value in this tiny niche.

If the scene isn't working then 1 of 2 things is up:

1) You need a break. Take a break. Stop writing. Refill the creativity cup. Sleep.

2) The scene isn't the right one. If it's boring to you, it's boring to the reader. Try a different approach.
