Wren swore she’d never return to Fenholt, but her pesky conscience got the better of her. Again. Now she’s desperate to keep a cursed necklace out of a necromancer’s grasp while dodging her old thieving crew. But is she desperate enough to trust a handsome priest of the dead?
A three by three grid advertising the wip book Thief of Death by author S.M. Lawrence. The top row of squares from left to right shows the title in bold print on a turquoise background, a monochromatic map of the city, and a digital sketch of the female main character. The woman has tan skin, a long brown braid, and a slightly mischievous expression. The center row shows from left to right the male main character, a quote from the book, and a black and white photo of an angel statue. The male main character is pale with shoulder length, wavy dark hair and a concerned expression. The bottom row shows from left to right a photo of a graveyard, a digital sketch of a skull with turquoise flames surrounding its head and turquoise pinpricks for eyes, and a photo of several old books and manuscripts.

Ultimate = Final

Spencer has landed in some serious sh!t.

From my romantasy wip about a priest of the dead and a thief with a heart of gold.

This is important. You need to focus, Spencer told his uncooperative brain.

The wooly fog was beginning to lift, but it was being replaced by something else. An angry buzzing he could feel through the soles of his feet was crowding in at the edges of his awareness. Out of instinct, Spencer reached for the Gray Lady and found the usually placid waters of her presence boiling like a tea kettle over the fire.

“Lady, bless and keep me,” he whispered on a shaky breath. He felt Her presence settle over him, a thin layer of cool gossamer tingling against his skin. The angry buzz resolved into something he could understand. It was pain and blood and fear steeped into the very stones beneath him. Every unlucky soul who’d been dragged into this cursed place and shed their last drop of blood, gasped their final dying breath upon these stones. They had not been grieved or given rites or buried. They were clamoring at Spencer all at once, crying out for him to witness them, to give voice to their pain and their suffering. The Lady’s touch upon him made it bearable, but only just.

#PlotTober Day 14: Story endings

I am debating on a few different endings for Josh. None of which are happy.

A) He succeeds in his plan to kill alternate Josh and take his life, but it slowly falls apart as he is still the same person he always was. Eventually he ends up worse off than before.

Oh god........
So I do have this one ending in mind already. I'm scared of posting it because I might piss some people off. At the same time, given the character arcs as I've outlined them so far, and the rules of the world as I've established them, I kinda feel like I have to...

#PlotTober my ultimate ending for this book is Grio crushing his enemies, revelling in power and those he hates either dead, imprisoned or in hiding. The only issue is no one knows it was him and that’s going to fester into the second book.
Or it could end with him sat on a throne of skulls.

The beginning and end I have more or less locked down. The end is a big battle on an ancient Fain pyramid during a lightning storm where Wren and Bruce are trying to be strategic and Spencer is all, nah, I'm gonna wreck this dude's shit.

Gonna use my CollegeAU versions of Mimi & Kena for this one.

Mireia's on social media, profile pic is her doing something athletic, or maybe holding a surfboard on the beach. She changes it like once a month though. She's constantly posting whatever random thoughts and hot takes

Back in Blood on the Snow this time, and Viola is not having a particularly good day

( saranadosfiction.com/2020/08/16/b... )
*What the-? Did they go to get help? Were they kidnapped? Did something happen while I was busy trying not to get shot?*

The last thought seemed to catch on something in her head. Slowly, and with a sinking, twisting feeling in her stomach, she looked down – and saw the spreading dark stain soaking through the lower leg of her trousers.

*Well… fuck.*

It didn’t hurt, which surprised her. She’d expected it to hurt.

Then again, being stabbed didn’t hurt nearly as much as she’d always thought it would either, and being shot was essentially like being stabbed with a blunt, round piece of metal, which meant… that it wasn’t anything like being stabbed at all, and that she was probably going into shock.

*Should probably tell someone about that.*

She tried to say something – she wasn’t sure what – but her face felt oddly numb, her lips wouldn’t work, and whatever words she did manage to get out were lost in the all-encompassing ringing aftermath of the shot.

*I think I’m going to faint*, she thought, with an odd, clinical detachment. And, as the world spun away into the grey, she had time for one final thought. *If he shot me… then who in the hells shot him?*

I have been slowly teaching myself to do digital art. I have always drawn, particularly character portraits, but I originally learned back in ye olden times. (the 90s) I am absurdly happy with the progress I've made drawing the MC of my fantasy novel.

#Art #Wrencer #CharacterArt
A split screen of two digital character drawings showing the artist's growth over time. The drawing is a portrait of a wyoung woman with brown hair in a long braid, tan skin, and brown eyes. The woman has a skeptical expression. She is wearing a black cowl around her shoulders, a white blouse, and a dark blue vest. The first drawing is labeled as being drawn in April of 2025 and the second picture is labeled as being drawn in October of 2025.

Spencer and Elton deal with some undead critters.

From my romantasy wip about a priest of the dead and a thief with a heart of gold.

#WIPSnips #WriteSky #WritingPrompts #WritingCommunity #Wrencer
“Are they supposed to do that?” Elton asked, his head cocked to the side as he watched the remnants with his unusual sight.

The undead constructs quivered, straining against Spencer’s command. The resistance spoke to some other intelligence controlling them, pushing back against his will. The soul of a sentient being possessed enough self-awareness to resist a compulsion, but these things were scraps animated with dribbles of stolen life force. Defiance should have been beyond their meager abilities.

“How many do you think you can manage?” Spencer asked, answering the novice’s question with one of his own. Elton scrunched his face in concentration, one hand clutching at the Gray Lady’s symbol dangling around his neck.

“Three,” the acolyte replied with a determined nod.

“Good. I’ll take the rest.”

Reaching for the tiny sparks of awareness animating the remnants was like sticking one's bare hand into a foul pit. It put Spencer in the mind of gutting an already rotted fish. Despite the roiling in his stomach, he seized hold of seven sparks and squeezed. The Lady’s power rose in him, numbing his fingers with its cold touch, and what passed for minds in the remnants winked out. Their bodies followed, dissolving into lumps of jelly and bone. An uneasy feeling settled heavily in the pit of Spencer’s stomach that had nothing to do with the mess underfoot.

Uh oh it's a Jasana snip! 😈

Mireia is not just recklessly pushing her luck here btw, she's got a good reason to think Jasana won't go through with it. Still risky but my girl's not completely insane 😂

From Book 3 of my #Atlantis trilogy.
Jasana’s hands gripped the handle of her khopesh tighter, bringing the blade nearer to Mireia’s throat. “Don’t tempt me!”
“I am tempting you.” Mireia’s eyes blazed. She was grinning despite the deadly weapon poised against her neck. “Go on, Jasana. I’m right here—this is your chance! What’s holding you back?”
“You think I won’t do it?” Jasana grabbed a handful of Mireia’s clothes, shoving her back against the wall. Her whole body was trembling with rage. “I will!”
“Then why haven’t you already?”
Jasana pressed the edge of the blade against her neck. Mireia felt the icy line push against her skin, and the warm trickle of blood that trailed down toward her collarbone. She closed her eyes, heart pounding, half-expecting to feel that blade open up her throat.
But it didn’t. Jasana tried to build up the will to do it, but she couldn’t. It was as though some invisible arm had reached out to stop her. After a moment Mireia opened her eyes again, and saw that Jasana’s eyes were wide with uncertainty.

October 13th – push

On favors.

Fox needs Av’ry to help her with something complicated.

#WIPSnips #WriteSky #WritingCommunity #WritingPrompts
He raised the bottle, but Fox put a finger on it and gently pushed it back down. “I need your help with something.”
“Something real, or something to keep me busy so I sober up?”
	“Ave, please.”
The look in her eyes made him put the cork back in the bottle. “What happened?” he sighed.
	“It’s… complicated.”
“More complicated than everything else that’s happened lately?”
“Not really, I suppose. But messier. And more immediate.”
“Alright,” Av’ry groaned and dry-swallowed a palmful of willow bark. “If I can’t have any whisky, I am going to need some coffee. Immediately. Can we talk in the canteen?”
Fox nodded and they moved out into the tunnels.
After a moment, she cleared her throat. “I spoke to Iella’s widower last night.” She tried for casual but missed by a mile.
	“Iella’s husband?!” Av’ry yelped.
“Yeah. He wanted to talk to me about D’arryd.”
“Why would he want to talk to you about the scout that poisoned you?”
“Well, he might be his son. And Iella’s son.”
“He’s your brother!?” Everyone in the canteen turned to stare as they walked in. Av’ry cleared his throat and slipped into a chair.
	“Half-brother,” Fox corrected.
“Your half-brother is the one who poisoned you?” He lowered his voice.

Mana cracked an eye open. “It's safe enough. I don't see most of you—just your hand and forearm.” She tamped down the terror with a shudder that rose from the mangled meat and claws and eyes upon eyes that watched her and the pen in her hand from every angle. It's not real. It's not real. You remember.
Mori hummed and guided her hand to scribe two rows of three characters, the first more complex but sharing its middle character with the second.
“What would her name mean?”
“The name means hope.”
“I mean, what about this?” Mana tapped a finger on the first row on the page. She knew enough about seigo now that there was more nuance than that.
“T-that's a secret for now.”
A snip of an art piece commissioned from birdko.art focused on Nakine Matsuba, a young girl with light, neutral skin and short straw blond hair wearing a red yukata-styked dress. She is napping (and drooling ungracefully) on the floor with her head in her mother's lap. One of her father's kuraima, Hakumei, loafs next to her, seemingly staring at her head, but is probably also resting, as it generates a cool breeze in the home. Her brother and father can also be seen in the frame, struggling to stay awake and snoozing respectively.

Alexander's a bit smug, but mostly he just expects triumph and moves onto the next.

But in truth it'll never be enough. He chases deeds as proxies for what he really wants—but can't have. He'll never be secure in manhood and must keep going till he burns out like a comet and dies.

It's a comedy!

Tok can only truly relax into his victories when others do. It's hard for him to accept that a job is ever really complete without more work to follow.

It really depends for Mireia. For big accomplishments, she'll feel the high of triumph in the immediate moment, but it fades quickly & then she gets preoccupied with what she still didn't accomplish, or how she could have done better. With games, though? She'll absolutely gloat,
