For folks in the #WriteSky #WritingCommunity who have used Atticus for formatting, how did you handle your "About the Author" page? There's a huge gap after the title that pushes my image + bio too far down, and I want it gone. I'd appreciate any insight or advice! 🙏

Today, I...

- finished the Udemy course on self-publishing
- picked an author photo!
- updated my author website

Time to eat dinner and turn my brain off.

I outline my whole plot beforehand and sometimes do a zero draft. Nevertheless, I expect to make changes at every new stage. Plotting doesn't mean new, better ideas won't occur to me later; it just means I begin the first draft with much less stress.
If you map out part or all of your stories, do your plans change? I’m a pantser so the most I do is a few chapters ahead, but they’re always changing #writingq #WritingCommunity

Katorgans have a symbiotic relationship with black iron. Though it is toxic to most humans when ingested, they consume it regularly as part of their religious rites. It confers subtle, supernatural benefits onto them, but what it gains in exchange, no one knows. #DecemberWorldbuilders
Howdy, #DecemberWorldbuilders! What are some symbiotic or parasitic relationships that occur in nature in your world? Feel free to interpret this one broadly and talk about a character with a parasitic personality, if you prefer😁 Don't worry, I'm not grading you on how much biology is in your world!

Jason and Ayana are getting to know Jason's brother's new girlfriend, Sabrina.

From THE DEVOURING, my cosmic horror thriller about a married couple seeking revenge—and uncovering an occult conspiracy in the process. #WIPSnips #WritingCommunity

Daemrin, the MMC of THE CRUCIBLE OF THE BROKEN MOON, my space opera romantasy, personifies Wheel of Fortune well. His life has taken him from one extreme to another, almost entirely by forces outside his control. Now, however, it's time to prove he's the master of his own fate. #DeckTheHalls

We're matching up our work to the Major Arcana Tarot Cards. So, tell us how your characters (or places, things, or events) match up!

Today's card is: WHEEL OF FORTUNE

What character (or whatever fits here) of yours would you put on it and how do they fit the meanings?
December 6, 2025 at 2:36 PM
I was. I pushed myself very hard this year, determined to meet arbitrary deadlines at each stage of the writing process. I came very close to burnout in September while I was retyping THE DEVOURING for its fourth draft.

Next year, I want to pace myself better and go with the flow. #pretendpanel
#pretendpanel, I hope you find today's question just as engaging as yesterday's, even if the emotions might be a bit more negative surrounding the question...

December 6th: What was the most challenging aspect of writing for you in 2025?

Someone PLEASE stop me from constantly writing criminals into my WIPs!!!

Jason and Ayana are both meticulous planners, but she definitely thinks in the longer term than he does. They have several [illegal] offshore accounts with sufficient funds squirreled away for early retirements, except both of them are major workaholics. And of course, the plot happens.
Tell me more about your #AwesomeCharacters

How much does your character think about the future?

Do they have plans for retirement and a pension set up? A distant dream but no real plans? Do they live each day as it comes and never think about it?

This card perfectly fits Trey, one of the supporting characters in my cosmic horror/revenge thriller, THE DEVOURING. A young and naive reporter, he is thrust into a world of crime and occult after deciding to help investigate the death of the MMC's brother, a former colleague. #DeckTheHalls
#DeckTheHalls, a new prompt game!

One day, I plan to have a custom illustrated Tarot deck as merch. So, tell us how your characters match up!

Today's card is: THE FOOL

What character of yours would you put on it and how do they fit the meanings?

I spent all day brainstorming and worldbuilding for this, and I’m super excited by my ideas! 🤩 Urban fantasy, non-elemental magic, and sizzling romance! Unfortunately, this may end up being another duology… or even a trilogy…
What if I eviscerate an unfinished WIP I’ve had on hold for a while? What if I take its bones and make it into something more fantastical, darker, sexier, and more morally ambiguous? And probably add like 50k more words? What if…? 🤔

Step 1: Have the characters exhibit attractive traits around each other, e.g., protectiveness, empathy, confidence, etc.

Step 2: When they talk to each other, have them joke, flirt, and show their compatibility.

Step 3: Have them pay attention to and anticipate each other's needs.

#Smutcember
#Smutcember, it's time to talk about our work! To start off:

How do you build chemistry between your characters? You can speak in general terms or give specific examples, whichever you prefer.

I'm proud I wrote my first book. THE DEVOURING is nowhere near a perfect book or the best book, but I accomplished something I set out to do, and I could not be prouder of myself. #pretendpanel
Happy December #pretendpanel! I hope you don't mind reflective questions. I'm a fan of them. But no worries if you give this month a skip, I'll understand.

December 5th: What are you most proud of from your writing this year?

I've shared this before in another post, but it's one of two instances in an early chapter of THE CRUCIBLE OF THE BROKEN MOON that mentions the fictional game clar dorn, which is really just space fantasy hnefatafl. #SFFChat

I prefer roleplaying games because of the depth of story you can achieve. Being able to embody the main character through playing out their actions and choosing their dialogue allows games to take storytelling to the next level, really immersing the player. I love that. #SFFChat
#SFFChat Q3: What unique storytelling opportunities do games (of any kind you wish to talk about!) offer?
December 5, 2025 at 1:35 AM
COTBM would be a semi-open world action RPG in the style of MASS EFFECT. #SFFChat
#SFFChat Q2: If your story were a game of some kind, what would it be (e.g RPG, TTRPG, a boardgame of some kind, survival horror, first-person shooter, etc)?
December 5, 2025 at 1:34 AM
I love dating sims, so let's do this for the MCs of my space opera romantasy, THE CRUCIBLE OF THE BROKEN MOON.

Daemrin is the jock/frat boy type with the leather jacket and motorcycle, while Lex is the bookish honor society member/class president/whatever. #SFFChat
#SFFChat Q1: If your characters were in a dating sim (or another kind of game if you prefer), what roles would they have or what archetypes would they fulfill?

E.g. Healer, summoner, maybe in a dating sim they're the mayor's daughter, or in a farm sim they're an angry chicken! Be creative!

Hello #SFFChat! I'm a little late on these, but the prompts seem fun. I'm Ange, and one non-writing thing I do for fun is collect Pokémon cards. Specifically, I collect Necrozma and Gengar cards.
#SFFChat Intro: Introduce yourself & share something you do for fun (besides writing or video games)?

* This week's questions will be about games, after I tortured our resident gamers with a game-related intro last week 🤣
December 5, 2025 at 1:30 AM
Daemrin and Lex end up living with his parents on the Katorgan mothership, Excorbitor. Residences are communal, so it's normal for multiple generations and even multiple families to live in the same space.

Jason and Ayana own a three-story townhouse in a more affluent part of their city.
Tell me more about your #AwesomeCharacters

What is your character's living situation like?

Do they have roommates? Pets? Live with family? Alone in a mansion? On the road? On a ship? Other?

Are they happy where they are, or striving for something else?

Back in January, I purchased a Udemy course on self-publishing during their sale and told myself I'd watch it once most of my book's edits were done. Well, I started watching it today, which is a very surreal experience. I can't believe I'm here already.
December 4, 2025 at 5:47 PM
It's more or less a circle for me. I don't branch out much beyond my own interests, which probably makes me kind of boring. 😅 #Smutcember
Last establishing question, #Smutcember:

Do you read different kinds of smut than you write, or is that Venn diagram a circle?

Plan for the rest of December:

- Learn everything I can about self-publishing. (Advice/tips/tricks welcome!)
- Reread TD Draft 5.
- Do a final pass/proofreading draft (Draft 6).
- Batch make Instagram marketing posts for January.
- Rest and refill my creative well by reading books & playing games.
