Grant Shapps signed off 'Great British Insulation Scheme' in 2023 — but the National Audit Office says 98% of those installations are now failing. A catchy name, a costly mess. Britain deserved insulation, not infiltration.

Insulation programmes costing billions of pounds have led to widespread problems with damp and mould.

The Government’s plans for Digital ID, for every working person, risks eroding the hard-won freedom to control the way we live our lives.

How much money will the Government waste on this scheme, for which they have no mandate and no public support, before they admit it doesn't work?
Kamran is a great campaigner and a real advocate for under-represented communities, and will help us spread Liberal Democracy to all parts of the country.
I'm delighted to announce that I'm backing @kamhussain.bsky.social to be the next Vice President of the Lib Dems! #Kamran4VP !
My endorsement for Kamran Hussain for #LibDem Vice President reads:
"I'm delighted to be backing Kamran Hussain to be our next vice president - his record of campaigning and support for marginalized groups in society is exactly the voice we need to extend Liberal Democracy across the UK."

This is why ‘digital ID’ as ‘mandatory’ is a very dangerous tool for authoritarians.
Otherwise the plan would be this. All UK citizens, all legal permanent residents, all legal visa holders & all tourists would need to provide facial ID to the government.

And the facial recognition system would need a zero % false positive rate. And then you simply flag anyone not in the system 3/n
This is how to build understanding and resilience in our communities and stand up to hatred and extremism in all it's forms. Thank you @maxwilkinson.bsky.social !
The world sometimes feels overwhelmed by division & hatred. In the wake of horrifying & divisive events in the news, it’s ever more important we all recognise & build on our shared humanity. The news rarely tells stories of people casting aside division & instead spreading love, peace & joy.

People spreading antisemitic hate and inciting violence against Jews are getting away with it.

We fear the government’s approach will do nothing to tackle that while undermining the fundamental right to peaceful protest.

"The Conservatives made a total mess of protest laws and left us with the worst of all worlds – wasting police time arresting people for legitimate peaceful protest, while letting others get away with inciting violence. I fear Labour seem to be following them down the same path, instead of properly reforming these powers to focus on the real criminals and hate preachers."

Quite. I expect headlines like this will be on every LD leaflet in S England seats - how can the Tories not realise that mass deportation is not a popular policy, even with migration sceptics?
Yet again, a distant but heartfelt cheer can be heard from Lib Dem activists in Blue Wall seats.

Changes to PIP are causing fear & uncertainty for people with neurodivergent conditions, and risk pushing them further from work, not closer to it.

For many, PIP is not a luxury, but a lifeline, covering essential support.

To strip this support would not just be cruel, but counterproductive.

We, the Liberal Democrats only official women's group, wholeheartedly stand by the amazing Woman that Cllr Chris Northwood is.

She is an inspiration to many within the party with her dedication to the party and her constituents.

She is a very deserving winner.
The Express asked us about awarding the Patsy Carlton Prize to Cllr Chris Northwood. We responded:

"This prize acknowledged an exceptional woman in Cllr Chris Northwood. The message it sends to women members and voters is that the Liberal Democrats honour and value all of our women members."

This is how the Tories die: as a dessicated Reform tribute act. Farage fans will always prefer the original. Centre right voters who shun Reform’s polarising politics are given nothing to vote for (and many will end up voting Lib Dem).
Not so long ago the Conservative Party would have seized upon the notion of deporting Ukrainians and Hong Kongers and extracted a heavy political price for it. Instead the position yesterday from CCHQ was that Farage is "once again copying Conservative ideas."

We don’t talk about it much, but we are a nation of carers.

The answers to the care crisis can’t just be about tinkering with the formal systems social care as they exist. We must, as a country ask some more fundamental questions about how we can better support families.
Here already! Attended the excellent ALDC conference on LGR this afternoon - worth travelling down early for!

It isn't mostly about the boats, it isn't mostly about the growth, it is rather a generalised feeling that the system is working against ordinary people.

Populists find it easy to turn this into an exercise in scapegoating someone or something.
