Andrew with a good article on the AK storm and the lack of upper air data I talked about in my post, including more perspective from @alaskawx.bsky.social and an unnamed NOAA scientist.

UGH! When will it end. 😭

"Effective October 15, 2025, due to non-renewed funding, NSIDC has suspended or reduced several Sea Ice Today tools and services."

nsidc.org/data/user-re...
Screenshot that says "Sea Ice Today" and "Ice Sheets Today" Services Reduced. More information is stated: "Beginning October 15, 2025, NSIDC’s Sea Ice Today and Ice Sheets Today services will be reduced because of non-renewed funding. This means no new monthly and mid-month analysis posts for Sea Ice Today or regular posts for Ice Sheets Today, limited comparison tools, and reduced user support."

(the thing the Big Frog does is 'כסה' the land, a Hebrew verb which can mean cover (to conceal), or cover (to overwhelm), or cover (to protect). A reasonable interpretation is that THE FROG came to protect the land from the authoritarian government)

But consider also Shemot 8:2 -

"And Aaron held up his arm over the waters of Egypt and THE FROG came up and covered the land of Egypt"

"But if you refuse to let them go, I will plague your whole country with frogs...
The frogs shall come up on you and on your people and on all your officials."

This is a result of activists on the ground and around the world who never stopped fighting for a different reality, even under constant intimidation. We owe it to ourselves to recognize our success, and our power. This must not be made into a personal victory for politicians. (4/6)

Palestinians and Jews across this land are taking a breath right now after a period of unimaginable suffering. Two years of bombing and intentional starvation. Two years of captivity and abandonment. Two years of infuriating political calculations at the expense of all of us. (1/6)

A ceasefire in Gaza does not mean an end to the oppression of Palestinians here. Palestinians in the WB live under state-backed settler terror, and our government has no plans to stop ethnic cleansing across the land. We cannot think that this deal was going to make any of this disappear. (5/6)
Proud I sewed pocket extensions on the cheaply made women’s jeans from Old Navy, but also, screw the patriarchy that sold us 1 inch pockets and said, “Guess that’s your problem now.”

As a protest optics nerd love about the inflatables is how much they visually disrupt and pull focus from the fascist shock imagery Noem & Miller are trying to create.

So many of these photos now look like the world's silliest dance party, backgrounded by a bunch of guys in uniform looking awkward
My YouTube algorithm is cats, sewing techniques, Jewish synagogue sermons, plant care, and late night shows. I’m in my old lady era.
Perimenopause told me to reject the evidence of my eyes and ears.

The evidence is I’m great at my job, and people like me. It is harder than it should be to hold that belief.

In this fragile world, Sukkot reminds us that safety comes best from solidarity, from making peace with neighbors, from being good hosts & guests, from sharing food, from remembering that we are small & precarious, from worshipping what is holy. Not from building walls and making war.

It has begun. No flesh shall be spared. Also, I’m in Milwaukee, Hammond and Flint this week! Go to pattonoswalt.com for tix!
You seem way too busy lately. I hope you’re taking care of yourself.

It also hit me that a sukkah is basically a fort specifically for meditating and/or study therefore I vote pillow & blanket forts should be considered valid for those of us in apartments who can't easily build a proper sukkah.

(I am like...50/50 on seriousness)
Maybe it’s not 8 am in their internal clocks. Airports are timeless zones.

Chappelle: Y’all are more free than we are

Riyadh crowd: Wooooooo

Chappelle: Like if I tell jokes about trans people at home people say shit about me

Riyadh crowd: booo

Chappelle: but you guys clap

Riyadh: [applause]

Chappelle: you see THAT’s free speech
This is perfect. The opposite of preaching to the choir.
I'm sharing my full Kol Nidre drash. I dive hard into Gaza. I've had sermons that were more difficult to write than this one but I've never had one that was this difficult to deliver. Thank you to @theradr.bsky.social and so many other colleagues for giving me the courage.

Seems to me that if changing in a locker room exposes no more than what wearing a bikini in the meeting would, she just showed it’s no big deal.

My daughter was trying to crochet a Hollow Knight figurine, but she messed up the head, and I told her that’s OK, now it’s a Fresno Nightcrawler.
A white and black crocheted head, two eyes and two longhorn The same black-and-white crocheted head turned upside down so that the horns look like legs. It looks like a Fresno nightcrawler!
