What’s the D incentive to play ball when the Republican Congress has (and will) make no effort to stop the executive from flouting the appropriations process?

I’ve mentioned before just how remarkably quick Jim Henson could be in talk show appearances, while remaining completely un-self-conscious about appearing onscreen in front of an audience while performing, and this 1985 exchange with the late Terry Wogan is a gem of an example of that skill...

this is not gonna go how they think. immigrant priests span as wide a political spectrum as any other group of Americans. plenty of them are deeply entrenched in conservative religious communities where having your pastor picked up by ICE might be the first thing that breaks through to you

The thing about the US is that literal fucking Nazism is never going to play well and the Fuentes-Carlson faction wants to put on the snazzy armband and the toothbrush mustache and everything, and force every Republican to do the same.

This is very, very dangerous. It's also gonna be bad for them.
Ben Shapiro was just ratioed by Nick Fuentes on X after Shapiro called out Tucker Carlson and Fuentes for their antisemitism.

The neo nazi right is fully taking over the republican party.

the thing about the oligarchs is they are so rich that there is no media business big enough to move the needle for them. the paramount/cbs/maybe wbd is getting bought by larry ellison as a vanity project for his son, its success of failure as a business is utterly irrelevant to him
I can't disagree with any of this, except to say it's not even really about the money, per se: the bosses will happily nuke a perfectly profitable enterprise just because they don't like it, understand it, or think it should exist
It’s not ever about the numbers—you can bring insane audience engagement, views, eyeballs to your verticals, shape the conversation in wonderful ways, win awards and on and on

And they still will nuke your job and your entire desk in the name of capital consolidation and kissing the fucking ring

This is more or less where I am. Would I vote Mamdani in normal times? No. Would I support him over fascists and their throne-sniffing toadies? Fucking absolutely.

Nobody stopped Freddie Oversteegen to ask if she was a socialist when she was luring Nazis into the woods and killing them.
"The Sanders/Mamdani style of democratic socialism is, whatever its merits, at least compatible with America’s tradition of liberal democracy. The Trump style of national socialism is not."
Donald Trump Is a Commie
Bernie’s democratic socialism is still compatible with liberal democracy. Trump’s national socialism is not. Thank you for your attention to this matter!

And of course CNN wants fake conflict for coverage. A real "everybody wins" (derogatory) situation.
All the geniuses at CNN think pitting Spanberger et al against Mamdani makes them angry but it's exactly what both sides want. Spanberger can say "I'm not some radical, vote for me Mr. Moderate who hates DOGE" and Mamdani can say "look I'm not establishment CIA shill" and Brooklyn will go crazy.

Teen Vogue proved that there's a market for keeping young people informed. Can we launch a new outlet to profit from it?
Teen Vogue did some great journalism around immigration detention and enforcement. Sounds like corporate has now killed that off.

The media landscape shrinks even further.
I was laid off from Teen Vogue today along with multiple other staffers, and today is my last day.

certainly more to come from me when the dust has settled more, but to my knowledge, after today, there will be no politics staffers at Teen Vogue.

Absolutely amazing: they've got so much solar in Australia that they need more people to use more of it, so the gov't has instructed energy retailers to offer *at least three hours of free power* during the middle of the day.

Meanwhile fossil-addled US struggles with an energy-price crisis ...
Energy retailers to be directed to offer free power three hours a day
Saying there is enough solar power for everyone in the daytime, Climate Change Minister Chris Bowen will direct retailers to provide three hours of free power every day to consumers.

dissatisfied by the New York Times coverage of Zohran Mamdani?

great news! I talked to the guy Thursday about his campaign’s success at bringing community together beyond this election, and contextualized how it’s potentially shifted youth engagement with politics by simply listening @teenvogue.com
Zohran Mamdani's Establishment-Fighting Campaign Built Community for Young People
“What Mamdani has done is not only inspire and mobilize young people, but he has exposed the establishment and some of their calcified views of participation and inclusion.”

Both of those answers can be found in the book "Matching Minds with Sondheim". Here's a review, explaining why.
