"They weren't always like this"

25 years ago, Republicans were joking about killing gay people, torturing Muslims and Arabs, and deporting Latinos, only obviously that wasn't what they called them

You want to tell me that the folks buying Liberal Hunting Permits at gun shows weren't like this?

"Tear the party apart" is editorializing. It's also a tenor that suggests it's bad to primary a sitting senator. Remember how i say the media is biased to the status quo?

SCOOP: Top Democrats in Pennsylvania are maneuvering to run against Sen. John Fetterman in a 2028 primary, threatening to tear the party apart in the biggest battleground state in the nation.
Scoop: Dems plot Fetterman ouster
He's still popular with Pennsylvania voters, even as Democrats turn on him.

Hey look, Israel broke the cease-fire, twice, in two different ways, within 24 hours - again.
NEW: Israel informed the UN it will permit only 300 aid trucks into Gaza daily, not the 600 mandated by the ceasefire it just signed.
My artist father idolized him when I was growing up; often using clipped images from movie magazines to break down and explain just how complicated layouts worked so effectively and seemingly-so-effortlessly.
Heartbroken that, per his social media accounts, Drew Struzan has left us. His poster and album art was quite simply shorthand for imagination for countless young people.

I remember seeing all of these in the paper as each film was re-released and just felt a burst of energy those mornings. Hook poster, 1991 Back to the Future poster, 1985

Storm is the only X-Men character who can carry her own movie.
What's an opinion about X-Men that'll get you sent to jail? Is Jean really interesting or really boring? Should Logan have stayed dead? Do you think a certain x-mens outfit is positively horrendous even though people seem to love it?

The Brood Saga is better than Dark Phoenix imo 🤷
Literally!
A blip of post-Onslaught through Operation Zero Tolerance in X-Men vol 2 in (winter 1996-summer 1997) gave us a moment of them. A mere moment. Then The Twelve (summer of 1999) in a messy story. Ughhhhhhhhh

Your tax dollars paid for that kind of unvarnished sociopathy. You okay with that?
Rev. Woolf, who below describes federal agents grabbing his neck and twisting his nipple as he protested (in a clerical collar) outside the Broadview ICE facility in Broadview, Illinois, is ordained in both the American Baptist Churches USA denomination and the Alliance of Baptists.

. “Our first advice to people is to don't do this alone,” he said. “The feds seem to be more cautious when we are in groups, which makes perfect sense because they're bullies.”
My latest is the story of how my community has rallied to protect and defend our neighbors in recent days, as ICE has targeted the Rogers Park neighborhood in Chicago. "This is not a story about a moment of victory, but a moment of being reminded of our power."
They Came for Our Neighbors. We Showed Up.
Before long, there were dozens, and then hundreds of people in the streets, watching and responding.

I truly believe a big reason why Democrats are failing to appropriately respond to the moment is a pathological refusal to admit that there were aspects of the American status quo pre trump that were extremely fucked up and unjust

Every day it becomes more and more clear that Sylvia Rivera was right, we never should have settled for Pride when we could have had Power.

New — Video shared with me shows ICE officers in DC detaining a man on Friday.

Bystander filming asks man for his name. ICE agent lies and says he’s not allowed to speak to him “by law” and another says “We’ve arrested American citizens for being too close…If he gets any closer, put him in cuffs.”

"Ignorance isn’t always innocent. A lot of the time, it’s strategic. ... White ignorance doesn’t persist bc there’s a lack of information—it persists bc there’s a refusal to engage... once you admit you knew & did nothing... you’d have to admit you were fine with it. You have to admit complicity."
"Black people are tired. Not metaphorically tired—actually tired. The kind of tired that turns every group chat into a mix of gallows humor and emotional triage."

I write about white ignorance and how exhausting it is to hear white ppl insist "this isn't who we are, when it's ALWAYS who we've been.
White People’s Performative Ignorance Is Exhausting—Opinion
Disbelief over authoritarianism in America isn’t a cutesy personality trait. It’s a confession: You haven’t been paying attention.

It used to be understood that real estate developers were evil in movies, we gotta get back to that. Not just a politics thing it’s just a good plot device.

Monstrous.

"federal agents detained nearly every resident of the 130-unit building—including children and babies—placing them in zip ties and separating them by race into vans for more than two hours early Tuesday morning."
Good reporting on the South Shore raid from South Side weekly here.

Confirms one thing I was told but didn't put in my own piece because I didn't have a second source and it seemed too insane: border agents segregated arrested residents by race

Families were woken by flashbangs and helicopters as hundreds of federal agents raided their homes. Days later, neighbors are still searching for the missing.
