9/11 was my first experience of being baffled that most of the people in the US were learning the wrong lesson that seemed obvious. Adults fully embraced “they hate us for our freedoms” and refused to look further. It’s been nearly a quarter of a century since then and each major event is the same.

In the weeks after 9/11, I remember people being legitimately confused about why it happened and asking, "why do they hate us"? I'd respond with, "Well, do you know what we've done?" and provided a list of coups, assassinations, and war crimes the US committed, and they'd just get angry at me.

Kirk didn't serve in the military or hold office. The war hero treatment -- half-mast flags, military guard, Air Force Two escort, calls for a statue at the Capitol or to lie in the Rotunda -- shows that for MAGA, service to Trump has become the highest, most honorable form of service.
