This is an astute observation.

I grew up in a town that went for Barry Goldwater in 1964 and had John Birch society chapters. It was rife with conspiracy theories: JFK as agent for the Vatican, LBJ as 'Landside Lyndon' (and worse) etc.

But Fox et al have empowered something new.

I've said this before, but one of the more striking things about the current generation of righties is that they really show no sign of understanding that there's a world *beyond* their screens, beyond owning & being owned on social media. A real world, with real people & real problems.

And yet the Trump administration is killing higher education in the name of antisemitism. I guess they figure the Hitler-loving, Nazi kind isn't really a problem.

I thought old man Trump had delusions of grandeur. Even he hasn't said that he saved God.

Unless and until some kind of compelling legal and moral argument is presented as to why this is a legitimate use of deadly force, this is just…mass murder.

Jack Smith pointed out something important in his comments. Re: Roberts' reasoning in the immunity case Smith points out that the problem w/his logic is that he's worried about presidents being afraid to do their jobs for fear of retribution when the real problem is the one who seeks retribution.Yup

I'm sure the Supremes won't have any problem with this. It's what the founders certainly intended. Trump will be irreparably harmed if he can't ruthlessly punish his political opponents and any innocent collateral damage.

Just don't try to forgive student loans. That's where they draw the line.

This is the second time in 24 hours he's said something like this. Yesterday he made that quip saying about Karoline Leavit, "those lips --- they move like a machine gun."

He's losing all inhibitions. Not that he ever had many to begin with.

Mind-blowing film. And so real in all its surreality.

This is the kind of film that is to 2025 what Strangelove and Catch 22 were to an earlier generation.

Art and popular culture must step up. It is necessary to fuel us for the long fight.

- It is legal to organize and fund protest.
- That someone organizes and funds promotion of a protest does not mean most, some, or any protesters are paid.
- Even if all protesters are paid, that is also legal
- It is good to oppose kings and fascism
- That's not what what "begs the question" means

If anyone needs me I will be in the museum, lying down next to the bog bodies.
Did people really memorize phone numbers before cell phones, or is that just a movie thing?
2? Questions
I was watching some old shows from the 90s and noticed people would just dial numbers from memory - like they'd call their friends or family without looking anything up.
Made me wonder if that was actually normal back then? Did people genuinely have all their important numbers memorized, or did most folks keep a little address book or written list nearby?

PSA: It’s okay to be wait-and-see on Gaza and the Israel-Hamas deal. You don’t have to definitively declare what’s going to happen and comment on that, nor take any national leader’s word on what they expect.

Peace in Gaza, however temporary, is obviously a massive relief, however it happened. But Trump's rewriting of history and all the fluffing from other leaders is hard to take. Good for him if his unique brand of corruption and threats led to something positive but this worship is too much.

My version of this is that Vought, Yarvin etc represent a kind of braindead right-Gramscianism, which leaves out all the interesting subtleties and treats civil society _only_ as a realm of indoctrination, where one ideological master-narrative can readily be substituted for another.
jamellebouie.net
a key thing about vought — and all of these guys — is that they have a totally top down and hierarchical vision of the world. they believe that the cultural changes they hate can be turned off by destroying the federal government because they can’t imagine that they emerged bottom-up in society
thomaszimmer.bsky.social
What he’s railing against is a profound shift in culture, status… He’s obsessed with the idea that America is controlled by a leftist “ruling elite” - but “elite” isn’t defined socio-economically or by political power, it means something like: Getting to define “real America” and who gets to belong.
