24 years of teaching we've gone from respected public servants who educated kids, to ungrateful babysitters, to snowflakes propagandizing "critical race theory" to "social justice" to "woke," and forcing kids to read "pornography."

Now we're terrorists.

The clowncar to authoritarianism is real.

Rev. Kardon “said she has been shot multiple times with pepper bullets, including while she was praying with her eyes closed and hands lifted, wearing a clerical collar and stole,” Religion News Service reported👇🏽
“Every time we have been attacked w/pepper bullets or tear gas or pepper spray that I have been present, it has felt like it came from anger that we were there, and not from any determined safety need or protocol,” said The Rev. Hannah Kardon, a United Methodist pastor. “They are unhinged.”

I was still a kid when I first realized that a teacher's job is to help me learn how to think and find the answers, not hand them to me on a silver platter. Now as someone who never finished college, it kills me to see "educated" people demonstrating that they never figured that out.
If you think that professors exist as repositories of knowledge that students ask for answers, you’re missing the entire point of a college education.

We’re here to teach students how to do research, how to analyze and argue, how to think for themselves — how to find the answers on their own.
Wow. Just wow.

"Students pay premium prices for information that AI now delivers instantly and for free. A business student can ask ChatGPT to explain supply chain optimization or generate market analysis in seconds. The traditional lecture-and-test model faces its Blockbuster moment."

Holy shit. This is Angelo Elia, a legislative correspondent for Congressman Dave Taylor.

According to @rooster.info, during a Zoom meeting today, he had an American nazi flag displayed in the background.
Exactly this.

They want someone who looks like a big, scary antifa-soldier to crush. But they're forced to be ridiculed by people in inflatable frog costumes, and when they act against them, they look weak and small.

Ridicule is a powerful weapon against people who want to be powerful and feared.
I feel like people who say the protestors in animal suits aren't serious truly underestimate how much fascism is dictated by what makes the top boys feel like big powerful cool men™️ and forcing them to arrest a singing giraffe is going to make at least some folks reconsider what they're supporting
These people are so small. Sure, arrest the singing giraffe. So strong. So alpha.

Every time Trump says something like this is a Democrat program that he's going to cut, Dems should immediately drop it into an ad to run ASAP on network tv.

"Trump says Dems support special Ed? Hell ya we do." -Should be the general tenor of the ad.
So, no republicans have children in special education programs? Trump says it's a democrat program.
Drew Struzan was my entire childhood. Such a masterful painter that made me love movies even more. He died today at 78, and I know that's a long life, but I'm still really sad about that little bit of empty space in the world.

There's a great documentary about him, Drew: The Man Behind The Poster.
drew struzan poster for Indiana Jones and the last Crusdae The Muppet Movie poster goonies poster back to the future poster
sad to hear this. what a masterful artist.

We like to pretend the endemic use of the present tense in modern fiction is a stylistic choice. But usually it's a cheap way to disguise mediocre prose, lack of structure, or both. It's like a row of showy petunias planted along a house to disguise cracks in the foundation.
Tell me your most unhinged literary opinion, as a little treat

A lot of writers seem to think the more mannered and self-conscious their prose, the better. They add SO much fluff. But the real power of any book comes from the precision of its observations, not the purpleness of its prose. David Foster Wallace wrote like an 8th grade boy taking an English test.

I don't think there's any inherent superiority to any particular tense. BUT...

My problem with the proliferation of present tense usage (as someone who's pubbed something like half a dozen books in present tense) is twofold.

First of all, most writers aren't exploiting the strengths... 1/

Are we, meaning me, doing Halloween names this year? Can’t go wrong with my actual name: Greg GORY Andree 🎃🎃🎃
Bsky named changed to Greg GORY Andree for Halloween
A guy I used to work with started antifa out of his garage, and now it’s called Amazon. They have bases everywhere, and can deliver their antifas so fast.
a friend of mine in antifa told me that antifa's headquarters is SHEIN and if the company fell the whole network would fall
