i am extremely certain there are untold thousands of palestinian victims, of all genders and ages, who have been subjected to systematic mass rape by the occupying forces. untold and untellable numbers because of how many of the victims are now dead. we will never know the true number.

(> to paraphrase one of my favorite history papers by historian brooke holms.)

Greta was singled out because she is a highly visible woman, and thus needed to be highly visibly sexually humiliated as an example, as a message, as an act of bragging about their impunity and power to violate.

I’m a prison abolitionist and vehemently against the death penalty in all its forms but I do think this actually would make the world a better place unfortunately

There's an article in today's CBC about another country giving artists a UBI and whether it could work for Canada, & I always think about how the Venn diagram of people who would think that would be wasting tax dollars on malingerers and people who comment "paywall" is very nearly a circle. pay me!

Windows 10 goes out of support today. My fave useless fact about w10 is that the iconic blue desktop background is a *photograph* - not CGI.

Tiny 'making of' vid here - youtu.be/_2RacX9DgWM...
Three images showing photographers in a studio, standing around a black curtained area with a projector and a 'Windows' logo etched onto a glass pane. The lower image shows a version of the iconic blue windows background, with blue lasers outlining and passing through an angled Windows logos against a dark background.

I feel like people who say the protestors in animal suits aren't serious truly underestimate how much fascism is dictated by what makes the top boys feel like big powerful cool men™️ and forcing them to arrest a singing giraffe is going to make at least some folks reconsider what they're supporting

Bari Weiss launched her own path to stardom with the argument "it is oppression to dislike me for being bad" and now we will get to see what an entire media ecosystem built with that philosophy looks like

I love first past the post. What a democratic, fair, and representative way of determining the leaders of our government. What could possibly go wrong.

screenshot of CBC news article:
A cascading series of vote splits mostly went their way, to eke out relatively narrow wins in targeted pickups across rural Newfoundland and Labrador, in defiance of public-opinion polls.

They held off high-profile Liberal challengers to PC incumbents, especially in the metro suburbs, while picking off seats vacated by departed Liberal cabinet ministers.

The Tories captured [start highlight] 40 per cent more seats than the Liberals, while winning the popular vote by a margin of one percentage point. [end highlight]

You gently run your hand through the rack. You can feel it—pure cotton, rich wool, Irish linen. The plump buttonholes are handsewn; the buttons attached with a firm shank. You flip the price tag over. It's affordable

You buy the jacket and go home, which is only 15 mins away. Your apt is $600/month

which means they co-opt the language of social justice and civilized society to keep the left in a circle jerk of making sure we don't seem fascist to our own community--which is way better at policing each other than anyone else--and laugh all the way to the bank/halls of power. it's exhausting.
aefrankes.bsky.social
this is the natural result of the whole "taking the high road" thing, btw. we think we're better and more civilized than them, and, even if that's true, it doesn't matter. you can't shame people over something they don't value. they don't want your civility. they just want you to get out of the way.

Every time a Democrat gets caught on tape saying like “Some Trump voters are racist” we have a national scandal and JD Vance demands an entirely new kind of apology and meanwhile every Republican group chat is like “Good morning fellow SS members. Who’s ready to respect Hitler today?”

I know the temptation is to just scroll past this with a “not surprised” reaction, but you should read this if you have the emotional bandwidth to encounter horrifying slurs and violent sentiments, because there’s an important takeaway: extremism is often performed to reinforce an in-group’s bond.

Oh, I know! I was doing a "yes, and" pile on of unbelievability, not saying you're wrong in any way! More in the theme of "tag yourself, I'm [x] horrible part" lol I forget I don't know everyone on the internet sometimes 🤪 haha
