Some follow @dasbarrett.bsky.social because he's Head of Data & AI for Citizens Advice.

I follow him because of the deranged carbohydrate experiments.
Buckle up friend it’s time for bread made out of crisps 🍞 🥔

Full disclosure it was not a flawless first attempt.

The aim was to make a loaf of bread where the majority ingredient is crisps.

1. Buy 450g of crisps, without shame

Is the AI bubble gong to be as bad as 2008? @dsquareddigest.bsky.social says it'll be bad, but structurally less catastrophic.

2008 collapsed the foundations. But AI assets are still held as risk assets - meaning less essential stuff relies on them.

I love Edward Hopper. This is 'Office in a Small City'. Go and look at some Edward Hopper paintings. They'll make you feel better. Or, at least, a little more delicate.

Folks, I'm looking for a huge favour.

We (Transform Wales) are making some stickers to go with the book. There is one that is screaming out for a very specific style outside of our brand. None of us are graphic designers.

Would anyone be up for helping design it? Will share details via PM.

TIA

Perfect timing for this story to drop on the same day Amazon lays off 30,000 workers due to claims of AI efficiencies.

If companies have less work for people to do, they don’t give you Fridays off, they lay off people until everyone has a full workweek.

This is why customer research is important, y'all.

If the GM CEO had popped out on a bike, she'd see drivers catching up on work, sending emails, and watching their favourite show behind the wheel, even today!
“Imagine you step into your vehicle, you push a button, and it drives you to the office. You catch up on work, send emails, or watch an episode of your favorite show,” said GM CEO Mary Barra.

This exists, it's called a bus

This looks like a joke map, making fun of the UK as not a serious country - calling us "8,000 weird towns in a damp trenchcoat". Yeah we heard you.

But it's not a joke map. It's a very serious map. It reminds us to be on our guard against those 'Gramfy croojer' freaks in the next village over.
I like to think that this map of all the regional names for woodlice in the UK could also be a map illustrating the new tribes of humans to be found on the same landmass after The Great Digital Crash and ensuing breakdown of society.

Clichés take hold in political language, a vicious cycle that runs through campaign speeches, through citizens’ expectations, and down into the software we build or procure by cliché, whose accordingly poor performance invites further calls for simplification. mechanicalsurvival.com/blog/design-...

They're great at helping workers get what they're owed... unless the business directors do this One Weird Trick @mellino.bsky.social writes about, which effectively cancels a tribunal award.

Cool cool. Good system. 👍

The best bit of tooling innovation I've seen this year is Phil Vandelay's seat post puller.

We need one in every bike shop please.

When a post doesn't want to budge using the usual methods like penetrating oil, holding it in a vise etc. sometimes a highly specialized tool like this is the last hope. I'm happy to report that it works great and I've already been able to rescue five frames that seemed like hopeless cases with absolutely no damage to either the frame or the seatposts. The full build video for this project is now out on my YouTube Channel, so go watch! I also offer plans for this build which you can find in the video description. Also, if you're in or around Hamburg and you need a post removed, just send me a DM, ideally with pictures and the post diameter, and I'll see what I can do! #cycling #bikemechanic #bikemaintenance #seatpost #stuckseatpost #bikeframe #frame #bike frame #brokenframe #tools #toolporn #machining #welding #bikes #gravelbike".

feels like yet again time to mention that the *videogames* industry (that's a creative industry, which people do creative degrees in) brings in more than twice the amount to the British economy as the fishing and steel industries *combined*
I cannot understand what these people think the purpose of human life is?

It is *not* "pursue joy, deal justly, love well, try to understand as much and see as much of this beautiful world and of the deepness, richness and variety of human culture and experience as you can before you die"?
How is this repeatedly made into a policy issue - by *all* parties - when the blunt fact of the matter is that grown adults who are obliged to pay for their own education, and relentlessly pursued to repay their loans, should be able to study whatever the fuck they want.
