A similar thing happened to me about 25 years ago, when I was a preteen. It was a nightmare.

Now, thanks to AI, so many young girls all over the world will have to live that same nightmare.

it's 30 years later and this still happens.
Jenna Ortega revealed in an interview with The New York Times that she quit Twitter after seeing explicit images of herself generated by Al when she was a teenager. She also became inundated with messages from fans that ranged from "disgusting" to "absurd."
"I hate AI," Ortega said. "I mean, here's the thing: AI could be used for incredible things. I think I saw something the other day where they were saying that artificial intelligence was able to detect breast cancer four years before it progressed. That's beautiful. Let's keep it to that. Did I like being 14 and making a Twitter account because I was supposed to and seeing dirty edited content of me as a child? No. It's terrifying. It's corrupt. It's wrong."

Trump announced today, seemingly at random, that he is cancelling fed funding for Gateway Tunnel, a tunnel for intercity & commuter trains under the Hudson River.

The motivation for the cancellation—which is likely to be contested—appears to be purely the president’s hatred of Sen Schumer.

But here's the problem: if you tried to transfer that money into the military personnel accounts (milpers), it would immediately transform into money whose period of availability ended on September 30, 2025 - and thus not be usable anymore, despite the money existing.

This entire thread explains why Trump's money laundering to pay the troops is a crime.

Here's the key bit.

As a historian, I can certify that we are in the bad times. But bad times eventually end.
In the meantime:
• Figure out a small way to help someone
• Figure out a small way to fight back
• Figure out a small place to find joy
• Figure out a small way to grow and thrive

And do it often.

I was once very religious and very conservative. Nothing but hating Hitler ever occurred to me.

My Grandpa's brother was a Navy Gunner's Mate, his first ship was a Liberty Ship that got sunk from under him by a German U-Boat. He barely survived the cold Arctic waters.

like I just don't think "they were always like this" is a particularly useful framing for this stuff because the GOP of Trump is meaningfully different than the GOP of Romney even if both are awful and we need to actually deal with the real world consequences of what they're becoming

1. young republicans were always terrible and racist

2. young republicans become openly hitler-loving groypers is in fact a new and alarming development that is worth paying attention to
