In Fort Worth, the No Kings rally runs at exactly the same time as the TCU-Baylor game on campus. The interest in attending those is like a Venn diagram where the two circles don’t even touch.

Agree, but I think it works very well in bringing in the folks who are intimidated or put-off by more “leftist” appearing demonstrations. “No Kings” is like something your 90s-era republican dad and your dem-soc cousin can agree on

In 2024, I wrote a story for Texas Monthly about Michelle Haas, whose complaints resulted in the removal of books about slavery from historic Texas slave plantations. Haas sued us, alleging defamation, and was represented by the preferred lawyer of billionaire J.P. Bryan. Today, we won on appeal.
The header of the appeals court decision:

NUMBER 13-25-00005-CV

COURT OF APPEALS

THIRTEENTH DISTRICT OF TEXAS The conclusion of the appeals court decision, which states: The trial court's judgment is reversed. We remand the cause to the trial court with

instructions to (1) grant appellants' TCPA motion to dismiss, (2) award court costs and reasonable attorney's fees to appellants in accordance with the statute, (3) consider whether to assess sanctions against Haas in accordance with the statute. See TEX. Civ. PRAC. & REM. CODE ANN. § 27.009(a).

Interesting time for Indiana to fire its student media director for (checks notes) refusing not to publish news and then (checks notes again) just shutting down the newspaper altogether. So, who wants a media law teaching job at this fine First Amendment respecting institution?

Annie Aguiar, writing here for Poynter, is one of many incredibly passionate alumni writing about IU and censorship.

“This situation makes me ashamed to be a graduate of the IU Media School. But I’ll never be ashamed to be a graduate of the Indiana Daily Student.”

At Indiana University, the journalism school forgot what journalism is for - Poynter
By firing the Indiana Daily Student’s adviser, IU showed how easily universities can seize control of the press they claim to support

(AP) — Dozens of reporters turned in access badges and exited the Pentagon on Wednesday rather than agree to government-imposed restrictions on their work, pushing journalists who cover the American military further from the seat of its power.

ICE arrested comedian Robby Roadsteamer for singing a parody of Rod Stewart’s “Do Ya Think I’m Sexy” in a Jeffrey Epstein the Giraffe costume outside their facility.

He sings “If you hate brown people / and you are a Nazi” and ICE thugs grab him and drag him into detention. No violence—just speech.

lets say a wizard has cursed you with a lot of money. you are going to become permanently brain damaged simply by being in possession of so much money. the only way out of it is to spend a lot of money on something ridiculous and not at all useful

what would you buy to break the curse?

“Merely calling something ‘doxing’ doesn’t really have any type of legal effect. It’s just a rhetorical characterization."

And recording government officials doing their government jobs in public is not doxing, it's accountability.

The topic was…free speech

The wave of violence against ICE has been driven by online apps and
social media campaigns designed to put ICE officers at risk just for doing
their jobs. The Departrnent of Justice will continue engaging tech
companies to eliminate platforms where radicals can incite imminent
violence against federal law enforcernent.
