im not religious but i get pretty freaking close when i listen to the motion picture soundtrack of The Prince of Egypt (1998)
I think thats actually a really simplistic take — white supremacy thrives in the people who may not be out-and-out racists but are racist simply because they were born into and molded by a racist culture, which is American (and Western) culture writ large.

An “emergency blockade of aid trucks”. Just like their “emergency hospital bombings” or their “emergency use of sexual torture”

I would've thought that "Black Lives Matter" was also something so obvious that everyone could agree on, but no.
I feel like you are legit on to something there, as least from a mod-con perspective.
plus the way they said “BLM” was loud and scary and mean :(((((
basic language to us with humility but BLM forces one to acknowledge that the system DOESNT value black lives, which runs counter to the messaging of “we are all the same” / racial colorblindness, which has been like the mainstream discourse on race in america from like the 70s onward
Unfortunately anything that implicates racism feels threatening to white people, so you kind of have to coax them in with basic libdem shit before you can talk about “complex” topics “systemic racism” and “intersectionality”… white ego is fragile

It's been two weeks of this Republican manufactured shutdown.

Two weeks in which real people & real lives have been disrupted.

To our shared constituents: Democrats are fighting to protect your healthcare & your livelihoods.

Our fight isn't over, and we won't give up on you.

a step in the right direction, but what’s most interesting is it seems FINALLY dem politicians are understanding how toxic AIPAC and israel are for the party. hoping more do this and actively denounce israel
NEW: Seth Moulton becomes the first candidate in a Democratic primary for Senate to officially announce that he will return and henceforth reject donations from AIPAC
Seth for
Massachusetts
I am returning AIPAC donations and refusing to accept any donations or support from them. The FEC filing I made yesterday reflects that we are returning donations. Below is my statement explaining why:
I'm cautiously optimistic that the recent breakthrough in Gaza will move us closer to ending the horrific violence in the region. A political resolution that allows Israelis and Palestinians to live side by side in peace is exactly the kind of framework I've been calling for from the beginning.
I support Israel's right to exist, but l've also never been afraid to disagree openly with AIPAC when I believe they're wrong.
In recent years, AIPAC has aligned itself too closely with Prime Minister Netanyahu's government. I'm a friend of Israel, but not of its current government, and AlPAC's mission today is to back that government. I don't support that direction. That's why l've decided to return the donations I've received and will not be accepting their support.

I am disabled. I have MEDICARE. I live on a very very limited budget in Boston, which has the healthcare I need but also is expensive as fuck.

Last night I went on to do the yearly « reconfirm your healthcare part d provider for the year »

This was the cheapest and nothing has changed on my end.

True though its a shame Dems couldnt get the same fervor with MAGA, but that speaks more to the rabidity of the modern GOP imho

Add to Brown and MIT, which have already declined.
Just received from a colleague: looks like Penn is going to join the universities refusing the extortionary Trump "compact". I do not regret to inform you that we are going to win
screenshot of an email saying:

"To the Penn Community:

For 285 years, Penn has been anchored and guided by continuous self-improvement, using education as a ladder for opportunity, and advancing discoveries that serve our community, our nation, and the world.

Since receiving the Compact for Academic Excellence in Higher Education on October 1, I have sought input from faculty, alumni, trustees, students, staff and others who care deeply about Penn. The goal was to ensure that our response reflected our values and the perspectives of our broad community.

Earlier today, I informed the U.S. Department of Education that Penn respectfully declines to sign the proposed Compact. As requested, we also provided focused feedback highlighting areas of existing alignment as well as substantive concerns.

At Penn, we are committed to merit-based achievement and accountability. The long-standing partnership between American higher education and the federal government has greatly benefited society and our nation. Shared goals and investment in talent and ideas will turn possibility into progress.

I am grateful to the Penn community for your thoughtful input and for what you bring to our University and our missions every day.

Sincerely,

J. Larry Jameson, MD, PhD
President
University of Pennsylvania"

There is an actual life-changing conflict between WFH being cheaper and more efficient, an entire layer of middle managers who need to have meetings to feel alive, and the commercial real estate cabal that runs all cities. It’s going to get so fucking weird.
remote work is like birth control or UBI atp where there’s overwhelming research consensus they improve quality of life for people they apply to, yet access is impeded or blocked by the ruling class because the thought of marginalized ppl having rich full lives makes steam come out their ears
2. Rolling Stone is owned by a large media conglomerate, which is ending remote work across its brands.

My home is Portland, Oregon, ~1,000 miles from the nearest office, so this marks the end of the line for me at RS.

Open enrollment for ACA plans began yesterday in Idaho.

One couple got notice that their monthly premium next year would jump from $51 to $2,232 as subsidies expire.

25,000 Idahoans are expected to be priced out of coverage.

This is what's at stake in Trump's shutdown.

The notion that crime and the economy were so bad 2023-24 that Americans reacting to objective personal material conditions had to do a fascism does not hold water.

If material, why would it be disproportionately white? Do you think nonwhite people don't experience crime or economic challenges?

Where we stand, in long arc of history:

-Story on left, adding race as a factor when that favors white people.

-Story on right, banning race as a factor when that favors non-whites.

I often complain about NYT headlines and story-play. But these are strong. Including "If Court Guts 1965 Law."
Two headlines on front page of NYT.

First is "Trump Weighs Transforming Refugee Policy. White People Would be Given Preference."

Second is "Justices May Ban Race as a Factor in District Maps. Nation's Political Balance Could Shift If Court Guts 1964 Law."
