The NYT interviewed 40 men who were in CECOT.

They described being beaten, sexually assaulted by guards, driven to the brink of suicide. One said officers thrust his head into a tank of water to simulate drowning. Another was forced to perform oral sex on guards in hoods.

Trump did this.

If you’re sad about this you can just simulate the experience by open carrying a handgun and running errands. This is America

There is a lot of fuss today over whether chatbots can replace human participants in social sciences research when the solution is obvious: ask chatbots to simulate the views of social scientists and survey them on attitudes towards chatbots as substitutes for human subjects.

Just trying to simulate a tornado but the ring of turbulence I added turned out to be the one ring of power, and I have captured the direct attention of Sauron himself.

Just introduced a new category of reverse engineering labs: Multistage. Multistage labs simulate full malware attack chains based on real-world malware campaigns. These labs are designed to familiarize malware analysts with reversing complex infection chains, rather than just standalone malware.
Multistage - Reverse Engineering Labs
Real world malware infections often happen in stages. Each step of the infection chain is responsible for initializing the next. For these challenges, you'll have to analyze your way through more…

ultimately i think the answer should be to change the design intention from "simulate world war 2" to "simulate the 30s and 40s," maybe starting the clock on Black Thursday, and then instead of playing as a country you play as a political faction--fascist, communist, flavors of democrat, etc--

Feels very weird how some devs seem to now look at direct implementation of mechanics that simulate real gambling as being fine so long as they aren't the mechanism that directly siphons takes real money from you. I'm not sure I really agree with that principle personally.

A billionaire who famously believes in simulation theory to hand wave away the violence he inflicts on others as unimportant because they aren't real people then using genai to simulate someone telling him he is loved for his own comfort sure is something

soulslikes resonate because they simulate turning 40
you can really feel the collapse of time in souls type games because there's no difference between something happening 100 years ago, 1 year ago, or last week

Oh! Rouvy actually seems to simulate the elevation gain change from speed bumps. This is fucking hilarious.

AI is now so advanced, it’s learned to accurately simulate the experience of being hung up on by a suicide hotline

Someone really should create a WW2 Simulator where you can only play the US and UK (and you control *both* separately), but in return it is extremely detailed.

And it should actually simulate the effects of all countries' policies, and their internal politics. Yes, especially the mass murder.
Ok, 'meme politics' is an excellent framing here and I am *absolutely* going to borrow it when I get to discussing HoI4.

My thoughts in that direction were mostly 'hey, politics sure seem de-emphasized' but this discussed the how and impacts of that choice.
it's not quite a @bretdevereaux.bsky.social five-part teaching paradox series, but i did my best to explain the underlying concept of politics hearts of iron embodies... and why "meme politics" is a good way to understand how Trump II operates

horse sims are obsessed with hair physics, but rarely do they attempt to simulate the phenomenological experience of being horse
The demo for TÖLT (my new MS-DOS inspired horse game) is FINALLY on STEAM - with 🐎new improvements!🐎
🎮 Gamepad support!!!
🖥️ UI supported on everything from Ultrawide to Ultraweird!!!
🪳 Countless bug fixes!!!
Now plays beautifully on Steam Deck!!!

eu5 right now is seeing the community debate the same thing, about whether “simulate the early modern period” means “simulate markets and people and states” or “make sure the plc and ottomans and spain consistently rise”, basically about levels of predetermination

It is known that the parasocial appeal of streamers and podcasters is getting to simulate friend group dynamics without having to participate. I feel like an under-explored aspect of that specifically wrt some vtuber groups is getting to specifically experience women's friend group dynamics

I absolutely loved painting this model, she has so much character, so different than the stereotypical heroes.

I hope I was able to give her the ambience she deserves. :)

Giving a try to simulate turquoise was another fun challenge.

(1/n) Can diffusion models simulate molecular dynamics instead of just generating independent samples?

In our NeurIPS 2025 paper, we train energy-based diffusion models that can do both:
- Generate independent samples
- Learn the underlying potential 𝑼

The Bears shouldn't build an indoor stadium unless they are willing to simulate snow in it or something. This is essential "Chicago in November" weather, and to lose it would be to deny part of their soul, or something poetic like that.
